“Cole is a very inspiring and soulful person.” – Meshell Ndegeocello
Cole DeGenova is a pianist, vocalist, songwriter, percussionist, and poet. Coming from a musical family he began studying piano at age four. By 15 he was working as a professional musician around his native Chicago, performing alongside some of the city’s jazz and blues greats such as Kurt Elling, Patricia Barber, Orbert Davis, Jon Faddis, and Corey Wilkes before the age of 20. As a teen, he was ranked by the Illinois Music Educators Association as one of the top high school jazz pianists in the state. Cole has since toured all across the country and in Europe as a sideman or performing his own original material, a blend of neo-soul, jazz, and funk. A recent Berklee College of Music graduate, Cole was also blessed to study under the tutelage of piano greats Danilo Perez and Joanne Brackeen. Because of his versatility, he is now an in-demand studio musician in Boston having been featured on records by the likes of hip-hop outfit Reup and singer-songwriter Keppie Coutts. He has also recently performed alongside Grammy-winners Paula Cole and Meshell Ndegeocello.
As lead vocalist and keyboardist, Cole also leads his own group, the raucous Cole DeGenova & The Peoples Republic, touring back and forth across the US. Their first album JUST PEOPLE AGAIN was released in summer 2009. It was produced by Geoffrey Nielsen with help from Grammy-winner Meshell Ndegeocello. It’s now available on Itunes as well as myspace.
