Bio
This page is for my solo acoustic musings which primarily consists of playing blues, Hawaiian Slack Key and other roots music on National resonator, small bodied Gibson and Weissenborn Hawaiian instruments. Aside from my projects with my electric power trio-The Colin John Band and my acoustic duo projects with Cliff Starbuck and Michael Hill,(see my other Myspace sites) I enjoy performing solo acoustic music, stripped down to its bare essentials. I believe in the power and beauty of music as an essential life ingredient and hope that it provides the same stimuli to you. You may find me performing solo acoustic material on the mainland including the States of Ohio, New York, California as well as on Maui and The Big Island of Hawaii. I occassionally perform in Europe, including England, France, Ireland, Spain and Germany;Have Blues-Do Travel.. Blues and Hawaiian music are two of my favorite styles and I enjoy combining them and coming up with my take on them. I am currently recording a new album @ Wicker Park Audio, Chicago, with my friend and co-producer John Lawrence. The result of this Delta/Hawaiian acoustic gumbo will be released this June on a cd called,"Transpacific Blues". New songs from these sessions will be posted soon. I thank you for stopping by and having a listen and look forward to meeting you on down the road. "Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!"
