Collective Opera Company (COC) is an interdisciplinary ensemble of creative artists, including writers, musicians, film makers and visual artists, dedicated to creating opera works for a new audience.
Our work focuses on emancipating opera from both the confines of large opera houses and the creative restrictions that often hinder the quality and content of professional opera. We create operatic works for the street and for non-conventional spaces where we seek to find the new audience, rather than hoping the audience that currently exists for opera will find us.
Our goal is to create groundbreaking work with social and political resonance, and to help opera achieve the greatest height of artistic expression it has the ability to reach, combining new music, poetry and prose, improvised performance, and unique visuals to create a real-time discourse between audience and performance.
Fusing classical training and guerilla performance practices, Collective Opera Company is a watershed of operatic form, style, and performance.
So, what I loved about yesterday's performance is that we fucked the conformity of musical recital's and made what is usually a very uptight vent...FUN! Who would have thunk?
