Colleen is currently shooting a featured role in the Dreamworks film I LOVE YOU, MAN produced by Ivan Reitman with Paul Rudd, Jason Segal and Rashida Jones. This spring, Colleen will appear as the lead in the feature film OPPOSITE DAY where she plays the wife of Pauly Shore. She can currently be seen starring in the hit play REGRETROSEXUAL – THE LOVE STORY, a two person play that she wrote with her husband, which the LA Times Recommends as "Hilarious! The Best date show in town! Wonderful Colleen Crabtree has a rare gift for instant personas with unusual authenticity." LA Weekly proclaimed "PICK OF THE WEEK! The actors (playing themselves are so likeable, attractive and funny that the evening is a joy." Backstage West raves “Crabtree plays herself, and about a dozen other characters with sharp comedic timing and writing skills. She adds great dimension with her versatility …bringing ancillary roles to life, each coming off as realistic and not cartoonish.”
Recently, she gained attention for her performance in the 2007 Progressive Insurance commercial where she plays the harried mother of 4 boys. Her last line "Who wants to be quiet?!" began an online controversy over whether or not the crash heard at then end was her firing a gun at her children. This led to her starring performance as Mary in the independent feature CLOSING ESCROW - a winner at the 2007 HBO Aspen Comedy Festival and an appearance on the series Monk.
Originally from Portland, Oregon, Colleen began majoring in theater at University of Oregon, but transferred to The USC School of Cinema and Television, where she completed a B.A. degree in production. While at USC, Colleen wrote and directed her own film short, NO HANDS. It garnered awards from numerous festivals, including Cinequest, Festival of the Carolinas, Portland Creative Conference and the Seattle Children’s Film Festival.
Upon graduating, Colleen enrolled in the Groundlings School, where in little over a year she rose to become a player in The Groundlings Sunday Company. The wonderful experience she gained there led her to produce her own seven-player stage play, “The Colleen Crabtree Show”.
Colleen is also a stand-up comedian. She was a semi-finalist in Comedy Centrals Laugh Riots competition, and was first runner up in the 2006 California’s Funniest Female Contest. Today she performs regularly as a club feature act.
Colleen has also played the lead in numerous other theater productions, including MACBETH, BOYS LIFE, CLOUD NINE, TONY AND TINA’S WEDDING, SPEED THE PLOW, and the hit West Hollywood play, THE TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE LIFE OF THE SINGING NUN.
Crabtree is married to brilliant comedian, Dan Rothenberg, who is incredibly good to her and is mostly straight.
Colleen’s dream project is to star in a feature based on one of her comedic characters. Specifically, Darla Sommers, (an angst-ridden Anna Nicole Smith without the talent) who dreams of being a serious journalist, but is constantly undermined by an overanxious set of boobs that could make any outfit look horny.
