What others say:
"... The next act is a jumble, commanded by ringleader Colleen O'Connell from behind a keyboard. of contemplative singer/songwriter numbers. Missy Higgins is possibly the laziest comparison, and yet O'Connell's voice is clear and devoid of Americanisms. Instead an uncontrived Australian accent draws out the vowels. Her voice aches in the delicate songs. In music that is so focused upon lyrics, hers are thoughtful and contagious, upending clichés with effect courtesy of lyrics like "your eyes are blue and deep, like the oceans that grew between us". And although this sounds a bit soppy on paper, she pulls it off with confidence, humour and fun. The highlight of the set is a Latino infused number that is met with enthusiasm by a maraca-wielding member of the audience..."
Review by Alyssa Critchley, The Drum Media, 20th May 2008 (following Colleen's appearance at "Sandpit" held at the Sandringham in Newtown on the 13th of May)
“This is where it’s at” Tom, NSW
“It is hard to put words to such a thing” Mavis, NT
“You wouldn’t wanna miss a show like this. The lyrics are honest. The music is nice. It was my best night out in years. I don’t get out much” Geraldine, Qld

“When I was in high school I started to keep a journal. I carried it around day and night. It was A4 size and would be flung under my arm everywhere I went. The first one was covered in fur and full of colours. It was named The Colleen Book 1.
I would spend hours in thought attempting to express the longings of my soul, the desires of my heart, my perceptions of people, my questions, my joys, my pains, the horrors I knew, the friendships I had, the dance of laughter, the uncried tears… Like my experience of life, this journal was colourful.
When I was 17, the colours of my life started to change. Part of this was a freedom in expression. I wrote my first piece of music, Rain. It was about this journey. This change freed up my mind to think of possibilities and I started to get a desire share my story through music.
Since then I have started to have more and more of a desire to share the stories of those without a voice through music as well. What a gift it is to have a voice!
Following this I started to pursue acting! Half way through my first year at College I decided I didn’t want to be an actor, but I wanted to live for truth and to be vulnerable onstage. I wanted to share vulnerability, stories that can’t be shared and my own journey.
I began to study music more fervently.
This is where the journey begun. Since then I have been writing songs and sharing them at every presented opportunity!
I would like to invite you to be a part of my music and my stories.”
