Colm Kenefick/Colm K is one of Ireland's hardest working dj's. He specialises in Hip-Hop, Soul & Funk, but has an extensive collection of music that includes Disco, Jazz, Reggae & House. A real lover of all things soulful, he's always been a fan of music for as long as he can remember and a positive step into DJ'ing came at the age of 15. He's been dj'ing in his hometown of Cork as well as around the country for well over 8 years now. Colm began his career at the legendary Sweat club night in Sir Henry's, playing in the Back Bar alongside DJ Stevie G. From there his dj'ing career progressed to numerous residencies in reputable bars and clubs around the country including: the Savoy (Cork), Ri Ra (Dublin), Trinity Rooms (Limerick), GPO, Bar Cuba (Galway) as well as stints on pirate radio for over 2 years. Through the years Colm has played alongside Run Dmc, Jazzy Jeff, Afrika Bambatta, Kenny Dope, Nicolle Willis & The Soul Investigators, Mr Scruff, Aim and many more besides.. In the meantime Colm entered the world of production and was a member of the successful Irish band - The Shades. They're debut album, Explosive received critical acclaim and is still widely available in record stores to date. In 2004 he was accepted to go to the Red Bull Music Academy in Rome, this was both a memorable experience and a great achievement. Colm was one of the 60 people worldwide to get chosen to represent his country in Rome.
He is concentrating as well a lot on his production at the moment and is really enjoying that aspect of things. Colm, under the alias Red Hula Hoops, released an e.p. of remixes in 2007 to much acclaim, it sold internationally and he is currently working on a follow up for release in early 2008.
Currently Colm K's residencies are Jam @ The Pavillion Cork with Stevie G, Sundays @ The Long Island - Cork's premier and award winning Cocktail bar, where he has been resident for the past four years. A monthly residency @ the Southwilliam in Dublin, a night in
association with Choice Cuts, called "Best Foot Forward" - http://www.choicecuts.ie/clubs/best-foot-forward/ . All of the above are doing really well and are continuing to build and push forward. He's just about to release some music on Fish Go Deep's - GO Deep label with a group called Freezerroom. As well as this some of my own music/remixes are highly rated amongst DJ's around the world. New free Herv digital album out now on Cock Rock Disco!
Hi there,
Just a quick note to let you know that I have a new free digital release out now on Cock Rock Disco if you would like to take a listen.
Heres what label owner Jason Forrest / Dj Donna Summer had to say!
Herv: "Not figuratively, but literally in love with Music..."
"Ireland's sexiest laptopper lands his latest mini-album on Cock Rock Disco! "Not figuratively, but literally in love with Music..." is a rave inspired experimental break-acid-core thrill ride of endless ideas and possibilities. Herv packs a lot into the 8 tracks; melodies evolve and twist, beats fracture and congeal and synths collide! It's exciting! But that's not all, it comes with 2 cd designs and a freakin A0 sized poster! Whoa! Can't beat the value in that!"
What's the craic Colm I made a new track. It was supposed to be like one of those cheesy hilarious funk love songs that people like Lionel Richie used to play back in the 70s. It's called "Love Funk". Please tell me what you think.
