After a quarter of a century of doing stand-up comedy, some may think 45 year-old Chris “Crazy Legs” Fonseca might be running the joke well dry.
However, quite the contrary, his material seems to run a bigger gamut every show.
Although still anchored by his self-deprecating look at life with Cerebral Palsy, his set is filled with current events references, as well as stories of fatherhood, divorce and various other topics.
Since he shaky (pun intended) start at a college “Gong Show,” Fonseca
has enjoyed entertaining audiences diverse in size and demographics.
For example, in a recent ten day road trip, he performed for 2,000 people at a black tie charity show, a “hole in the wall” open mic night and a awards banquet for the Future Farmers of America.
Notable TV shows which have featured Fonseca include The Late Show with David Letterman, The Latino Laugh Festival and even the campy beach drama -- Baywatch.
He has entertained 4 of the last 5 U.S. Presidents and was part of the prestigious Montreal Just For Laughs festival.
Fonseca’s career is being documented in a “work in progress” autobiography -- “Daddy, Where Do Jokes Come From.”
You can enjoy “Crazy Legs” on CD, with 1997’s “Not Tonight, I Have Cerebral Palsy,” 2000’s “Get in The Van” and 2006’s “Raising The Bar.”
He currently is working on “That’s How I Roll -- Fonseca’s Greatest Hits,”
a CD/DVD combination due in the fall.
Fonseca has dabbled in songwriting, collaborating with L.A.-based writer/performer Randy Shaffer.
The song, “If I Had What You Have,” is based on a child with Autism.
Autism is among the causes Chris champions.
He is an Honorary Board Member of Stomp Out The Silence of Autism and Disabilities, based in Colorado Springs, where he resides.
He also does fundraising for Shane’s Inspiration, a California non-profit dedicated to building accessible playgrounds around the world.
