About me:
.. BIO: Glen Bo is from Mooinooi but cut his comedy teeth in England. A firm believer that: honesty + pain = comedy he has performed all over the U.K. Taken a show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and run various comedy clubs in the U.K and revived Durban Comedy from the dark-ages. His rock’n’roll style of comedy has lead him to host various festival stages both in comedy and music productions interlinking keen observations with darker themes and swept in surrealism at times. He has performed to corporates, at festivals, in clubs and as long as they can see the stage, he will get a reaction and turn a room positive using no b.s, fluff and jokes in a traditional sense. Performances internationally include Bahrain, The Seychelles, Scotland, England, Wales and The Bluff. RSA all over including the Comedy Revolution tour which was 27 shows in 31 days. He is also a keen promoter and develops young talent. Glen has lectured at UKZN on the Art and Business of Comedy. Promoting: started his stand-up career in JHB then swiftly moved to the U.K to further his career. In his time there he performed as a full-time and professional comedian in the Mirth Control, Laughing Horse circuits encompassing over 70 clubs nationwide. He was flown to Bahrain to perform and well as Royalty with SA’s best for a special show in the Seychelles. A consummate performer and promoting skills he revived Durban Comedy from the dark ages on his return to RSA in 2008. BACKGROUND: He hails from a small town called ‘Mooinooi” AKA “pretty girl” near Johannesburg, South Africa. After working every comedy club South Africa had in 1999 he moved to London to further his career. Whilst there for 5 years brimming with air-dried meat, angst and a plan he took up his collection of thoughts and worked the smoky stand-up rooms around London, then greater London then the rest of the U.K. He performed at many infamous clubs like Comedy store, Comedy Tree, Mirth Control and Laughing horse circuits clubs from Minehead to Cornwall to York over to Wales. All over wherever to make his craft tight. He did so and spent his years cultivating facial hair in and around the U.K comedy circuit being paid and hosting, doing slots headlining and promoting gigs in London. He toured the U.K in a run down golf gti from Glastonbury through to Bath up the coast through Wales and all over. Then is got a bit more serious in 2004. The London, York comedy festivals on to Edinburgh and many more. He also appeared in the ECR Comedy Invasions to South Africa in 2005/6 after working like a demented puma filled with elation and poise and also promoted the tours as UpnUnderComedy. He has performed in Bahrain, the Seychelles and has a “cult” following amongst “SAffa’s” in the U.K and ( KZN) South Africa. He has been likened to ‘Eddie Izzard’ with his surrealism and charisma and ‘Bill Hicks’ for his apathy with social decay, Bo pulls no punches. He is well known for dislocating his shoulder by accident live on stage at the Durban Playhouse in 2005, where he strained in tremendous pain, until he clicked it back in and finished his set. Jnr Simpson from the U.K vowed to name his first born ‘Glen’ as “ he is absolutely insane, or just that brilliant”. In 2007 he returned to RSA for a couple years. It was shortly after that he started ThunderHEAD Comedy in Morningside which has now run for the past 18 months, which is the only developmental vessel to build up both new comedians and the “scene”. In 2008 Glen had performed his solo show ‘ My Nirvana, Kill the lights” and started adding more venues to the KZN comedy scene. He hosted at Splashy Fen for 2 years in a row and co-produced and performed on the RSA Comedy Revolution Tour. Taking 5 comedians around the whole of SA, for the longest Stand-up tour ever on record in RSA. Glen has won various awards and recently nominated for a couple more. He revived Durban Comedy from the dark-ages and now is working toward 2010. The cuircit in the past two years has developed a handfull of acts now rivialling all the other new acts around RSA – Durban has got talent. Currently the ‘KILLER COMEDY’ club brand as well as “ PUNCHLINES!” and the “Durban School of Comedy” makes up the KZN Scene with 3 regular monthly venues and afurther 10 touring venues. On Horizon Stereo, he was part of the breakfast team then moved to a bigger time slot, the afternoon drive. T.V ETV’s “Let’s Fix it” he hosted a charity auction for Woman’s abuse.
