After much time spent performing at open mics night after night (sometimes as many as four in the same evening) a few local comics wanted more than to just perform in front of the same fifteen comics, four drunk assholes and a moosehead. They wanted a real crowd.
Getting work at showcases and comedy clubs was naturally the next step, and even though they'd get booked here and there, it just wasn't enough. You've all heard the term "bitter comic", right? This is where it comes from... having to kiss ass and beg and plead just for five minutes of stage time at the same old shitty two-drink-minimum comedy club.
That said, there were two options: continue brown-nosing bookers at popular stand-up comedy shows or quit their fuckin' moanin' and start their own. You probably know where this is going...
The COMEDIANS YOU SHOULD KNOW Show was started out of a genuine desire for a legitimate comedy venue showcasing the very best of Chicago's stand-up comedy scene without regard for politics, friendships, cliques or any other pitfalls that often come in the way of good booking. The idea was simple: Get the funniest comedians possible for the funniest show possible.
Good luck finding a better weekly stand-up comedy show than ours. We dare you.
