I've written a book called, "Coming Out From Behind The Badge" that is about police officers who've come out on the job. It includes my own story as well as the stories of other officers from all over the country. The book also includes a section for officers who are thinking about coming out, allies who want to support their brother and sister GLBT officers, and for administrators who are looking to create a supportive work environment. The book is now available for order at www.comingoutfrombehindthebadge.com

Writing Contest Announced - If you are an LGBT member of law enforcement, corrections, the fire service, or an EMS professional, I invite you to share your story in our next edition of Coming Out From Behind The Badge. We will include the 50 best stories we receive in our next book. Readers will then be invited to vote on their favorite story. First prize is $500, second prize is $250, third prize is $100. You don't need to be a professional writer. You can ghost write your story without having to use your real name or agency name. Your story is what is important. Stories must be at least 5 pages and submitted electronically in a format compatible with MS Word. We will take care of the editing. You can also submit your story by completing an online interview.     I have not see the book yet but will probably pick it up. I came out with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1991 right after Rodney King. I was out until the day I retired and witnessed the massive changes within LAPD over the years.

    Now that I ma retired I have been working on several small projects one of which is a prime time TV show which may air next fall and repace "ER". The show is about LAPD, and the officers and one of the main people is an "openly gay" FTO.

    We think NBC will pick it up and replace ER with it. The show is called simply, "POLICE." Who would have thought!
