Dave Baker, singer for the now-defunct The Band That Fell to Earth, began writing and recording solo material in New Orleans in 2004. He didn't know much about playing instruments, his drumming was frought with bad timing, his old Sears-brand guitar had two broken strings that he didn't even bother to replace, and, admittedly, he didn't know the first thing about operating a four-track recorder. But over time, full songs began to emerge. Listen for phased drums on one song, pots and pans on another.
Baker sings of love, loneliness, a growing need to get away from it all, and an addiction to the darker side of life.
You certainly won't find polished melodies in the music of Commander 8, only the scrappy sounds of an independent musician, a man with a broken guitar who just needed to get a few songs out of his head and into the ether.
