About me:
“Who do you believe in? If you believe in me you believe in yourself? A vote for me is a vote for you. For Portland I am your son…”
-Harold C. Williams Two
I’m Harold C. Williams Two- candidate for Portland City Commissioner position (2). Born and raised in the greatest city in the world Portland, Oregon. I graduated from the school of champions, Jefferson High School, in 1995. I received my BS in Early Child Hood Development from Appalachian State University located in Boone, North Carolina. Currently I am President of CH2A & Associates Inc., a management consultant firm; vice chair of the Success Academy, a non-profit that serves low-income and at risk youth; and Board chair of PDX Confidential, a business professional origination.
I am also running for city commissioner of Portland to give a voice to small business, the tax payer who believes they are not being heard, and to expose our children to our city government, its processes, and opportunities. We lose our young talent to other cities and states because many of young people do not know what opportunities are available. "Imagine Portland without street signs. Imagine Portland with houses without address numbers. Outside of your neighborhood, you wouldn't know how to get around. Portland has phenomenal resources, services, and opportunities; but very few people know how to access them." My plan is map out Portland city government and its services. This map will be simple and clear to understand.
I stand for Access, Accountability, Communication, Education and Relationships between city government and the citizens of Portland. We must remove the things that divide and embrace the things that unite. “For what we do today our children will hold us responsible tomorrow…”
What I’ve been doing: as President of CH2A & Associates and vice Chair of the Success Academy
Most of my work with CH2A has been undertaken with private and public partners and includes events for CH2A's Success Academy, a program that works with the City of Portland, Portland Police, Portland Parks and Recreation and private businesses to connect inner-city youths with resource providers and mentors. Events for the Success Academy include the Success Academy Friendly Faces of Summer 2005 community outreach that involved the City of Portland, Portland Police and the Mayor's Office where we provided case management, mental health services, and community activities. We monitor progress and make appropriate referrals for housing, food and clothing assistance, main stream and alternative education, employment, medical assistance, and substance-abuse treatment, if necessary.
CH2A also presented a diversity-training workshop for PDC in June 2007. With Journeys of the Heart, we presented a Cultural Confidence and Empowerment Symposium on October 23, 2006, that focused on the needs of minority adopted children. In the summer of 2007, we held several community events for the Success Academy SQUAD UP summer program, including a networking event at Pistils Nursery, an Icy White T-Shirt Block Party (where we gave away clothing and shoes provided by Adidas), an HIV/AIDS awareness event in partnership with Ace Duce, and a celebration of entrepreneurship in partnership MODE 700 called “The Take Over” held at Portland city hall.
CH2A also sponsored, along with El Hispanic News, Nike, Portland Community College and the Portland Observer, PDX Confidential “Setting The Table” conference held at the downtown Portland Hilton hotel where we celebrated DEED (Diversity Economic Empowerment Day) and where we received a city and state proclamation. This event included a round table discussion (Generation X’ers vs. Baby boomers), award ceremony, strategies for success workshops, a corporate makeover, and first impressions (job fair, trade show, and networking hour.)
CH2A's most recent project involving an array of our services was the 2006-2007 Community Work Project and Report we prepared for the Portland Development Commission. CH2A made over 500 contacts, had over 80 face-to-face interviews and held several community events and meetings. The interviewees included developers, small businesses that received PDC services, labor unions, neighborhood groups, and contractors.
At the December 6, 2006 PDC Board of Commissioners meeting, CH2A helped present the annual Diversity Report. With John Jackley and Dr. Garfield DeBarteleban, we announced a number of significant policy changes and presented a strategic shift in attitudes and relations within the minority community. Our research assisted PDC in the development of its Minority Contracting Initiative.
By holding a series of nontraditional community outreach meetings with faith-based and other organizations, CH2A opened doors for PDC that had previously been closed. We went to churches, coffee shops and other places of business to hold events that allowed PDC representatives to meet the public face-to-face. We participated in developing the construction wage policy through our grassroots work and policy recommendations.
In our various projects, CH2A has collaborated with such groups as Reality Outreach, Ace Duce, MODE700.com, SCION, Bum Squad DJs, Pistils Nursery, Jamming 95.5, Adidas, Urban Arts, OYA, DHS, Community of Colors, O.G. One Production, Open Meadows and House of Umoja.
