Hailing from West Chester, Pennsylvania, Crave is bringing a fresh new sound that is sure to take the Pop and Urban music scene by storm.
Crave's story begins in the early 2000’s when members Dave Humes, Nick “Souks” Matsoukas, and George Waldie started individual ventures into music. Dave’s journey began at the age of 7, when he received a small children’s acoustic guitar for Christmas. The gift made such a huge impact in his life that at the age of 10 Dave was already playing on a Fender Stratocoaster. By high school he was so deeply influenced by the likes of Nirvana, Metallica, Jimmi Hendrix, and Phish, to name a few, that Dave began to skip lunch to hang in the Music Theory room. It was then that he became a self taught pianist, and his graduating class’s “musician”. Needless to say Dave’s dedication to music was so strong that he became an integral part of a Jam/Rock Band named “Granted Nothing”. Coincidentally a few streets down, George’s future was being mapped out long before he was born. Coming from a family of music teachers and trained vocalists, music was not only unavoidable but it was George’s destiny. By the age of 16 George did not only play the piano and the guitar, but was also a trained vocalist,a songwriter, and served as the frontman for local band “Thurgood”. Having showed such potential musically, George’s parents turned an extra room in the house in to a recording space where, at the age of 18, he began to record his own material. Both Dave and George were becoming no strangers to the stage as both their bands played local venues and would even do show swaps throughout West Chester. On the other side of town Nick was being heavily influenced by his parent’s and sister’s musical tastes, listening to everything from Pink Floyd to a Tribe Called Quest to Jazz and Blues. At the age of 9 Nick began playing the trumpet and by the age of 13 he had gotten his first set of turntables. He started to develop a true passion for the production aspects of music. He was heavily influenced by the Neptunes, DJ Premier, and Organized Noise, among others. It wasn't long before Nick began to compose and produce beats while in high school. He would go around school picking out emcees to rap over his beats. Nick however didn’t stop there, he eventually began rhyming over his own beats and fully immersed himself in hip-hop culture. The three were tremendously involved in their own projects not realizing what the future had in store for them.
In 2004 the trio graduated from High School and planned to attend Drexel University. It was at Drexel that their paths finally crossed. Dave and George had maintained a close relationship from their high school and band playing days, however it didn’t take Nick long to fit right in. By 2005 the trio had begun to write and compose songs which eventually led to the creation of their band, Common Crave. Common Crave quickly garnered a strong following and began to play shows at local Philadelphia venues such as The TLA, Northstar Bar, Doc Watsons, and The 5 Spot. Through their success they went on to record a full album that was made available to fans at shows and events.
It was during Common Crave’s success that Dave, Nick, and George came up with the idea to explore the production side of the industry. Combining their individual genres and musical talents, the three have come up with a sound that is mainly hip-hop based, but contains strong rock, blues, and jazz elements. Their tracks have impressed many emcees and labels, in particular up-and-coming rapper, Millie Mag, who states, “Crave is truly unique. They possess the ability to help an artist discover and develop their own sound”.
Crave continues on their quest to bring good music to an ever changing industry that is in need of a fresh new sound. They have since established “The Phood Court”, a full service recording studio which they call home.
