Glen Russell sings from his heart and anyone that is near by is pulled into the energy of his performance. He was awarded a scholarship for music performance in 1980. Music for Glen is a very personal thing. The current expression of which, since 1998 has been and continues to be, CG Blues.
Brian Eddie has his roots in the greats, from Mike Bloomfield to Ronnie Earl, from Danny Gatton to Robben Ford. You can hear them all when he plays, as well as his own voice that comes through his music. He has the feel in his hands and the tone to the bone.
Tom Marks adds touches of jazz and blues in each and every tune, to give CGB tons of flavor and enough color to fill any artists pallet. Tom will truly take you for a ride and make you forget all your troubles when he lays into those keys to please and tease.
Timothy Kinsey, is the Road warrior. He has managed to play for fifteen years without need of otherwise gainful employment here in the south western United States. A veteran of many bands, and many miles, He can give a song whatever it needs. Tim is a solid player. And in a deal for the redemption of his veryl soul, he has found CG, Blues.
Guy Mazzo on Drums is now laying down the groove for Cg,Blues.
With many years experience Guy adds the driving force that helps CGB bring it all on home for it's fans here at home and all over the world.
Thank YOU for embracing Common Ground Blues.
Influences
A scant few would be: Ronnie Earl, Duke Robbilard, Tom Waits, Mike bloomfield, Robben Ford, Monk, Coltraine, all the Jazz and Blues greats, both old and new, the famous and the infamous, the large names and all the great but lesser known performers and bands, the saints the siners, the artists the whores.. and by all god's children from the modest to the mighty..
Still, mostly we have been and are still to this day, being influenced by all of the wonderful musicians and freinds that continue to touch our lives. Spirits from the past, the present, and those in future store. I thank you. And much love from Cg,Blues.
Here is a brand new video caught live by a freind on July 12, 2008 at O'Briens Pub. It's a full lenght cut.. It's the first time out with the new line up for 2008. It was a real fun show, and a good time was had by all.
Here is a qick phonecam clip, caught by a friend at a nice supper club in Mesa Az. back in 2006, Ok it's a little grainy.. but it does show people having a good time, and gives a little look see at how we move and groove..
The Common Ground Blues band pulls inspiration from "The Old Masters to the New Monsters" of electric blues music. Cg,Blues stands out from the crowd with compelling vocals, and some very toneful guitar work. Add in a tight rhythm section and then lift it again with both piano and organ for all the right flavors...

My dearest friend, how are you and the guys?? Been meaning to write, can't begin to tell you what all has been going on in my world...quick overview, trying hard to get a band together, ensuing drama with the possible guitarist. Trying to decide whether to cut that connection quick, or hang in there... Lost a friend of the family last week. Sad...too young. He was just 21, and my son's closest and longest friend... Drunk driver!... Word this week, a very close, dear friend, family really, diagnosed for second time, stage 4 cancer, after living cancer free for over a year...It's surrounded her heart, and there may be nothing they can do but 'keep her comfortable'. She's 24yrs old, and my daughters best and oldest friend's baby sister...essentially a little sister to my daughter...all the while, preparing to move, unexpectedly, because without warning or knowledge, landlord is selling my home, I've lived here 8 years... It's just been chaos since returning home from Cali.....but, I know from where I draw my strength, and all will work out.... I've truly been thinking of you and how the new member-s are working out, and the new venues are going...and just how my favorite Bluesman is doing. I hope well. Please shoot me a letter soon, and fill me in on the latest with you and my favorite Blues band! Love ya my friend! Hearing from you always makes me smile. :) Denise
I was happy to come! I had a blast! Oh yeah, that was me dancing! LOL! I love to dance. We talked to your lovely wife about dancing with us and low and behold there she was boogying along with us! =) We enjoyed meeting her and talking to her. We did end up with a crappy motel room though... that's ok, we will know better for next time. =) We weren't there much except to sleep so it was alright. I emailed some pics to the address that you sent me an email from ... from the CGB website =) Hope to see another gig soon!
Hello buddy! Wow, what a trip! LA, San Diego, Vegas... And ALMOST Phoenix! Details later.... Next trip: Phoenix! :) enjoyed my 'vacation' but missed some good music, except for seeing my childhood 'idol', Loretta Lynn in Vegas, which was my sister's birthday gift to me. I cried like a baby. She was fabulous, still... So many great Blues artists appearing out there in the coming months. Made me wanna stay in Vegas! :) I'm just dyin to hear this red-hot Blues band in Phoenix though...CGBlues!!! Hugs, Denise
LET ME TELL YOU MY DEAR FRIEND, IF EVER I DO GET TO BREEZE THRU PHOENIX, TRUST ME, WOULD BE SPECIFICALLY TO HEAR YOU SING, AND CGBLUES SMOKIN SOME BLUES. . . OTHERWISE I'D BE CRYIN BLUE TEARS. . . BUT SERIOUSLY, EITHER WAY, I'D BE ONE HAPPY LADY TO GET TO MEET MY FAVORITE BLUES SINGIN' MAN. . . ONE OF THESE DAYS GLENN, I'M GONNA MAKE IT HAPPEN! :) TILL THEN, KEEP SMILIN WHEN YA THINK OF ME DOING WHAT I DO, THINKIN OF YOU DOING WHAT YOU DO! WE ARE OF LIKE SOUL. . . NOTHING FULFILLS ME LIKE GOOD MUSIC, AND ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M CREATING IT. :) BIG HUGS, AND BIGGER LOVE, DENISE
Ps: meant to mention, in addition to the lead, rhythm, and bass, we have drums, sax, harmonica, and occasionally a keyboardist... But never know when some will show...hence the name, 'ELIFINO' :) ... OK can't stand it, my kids bought me a ticket to LA.... On june 16 to celebrate my birthday with my little sister. I'm june 9th and she's the 11th, but couldn't get a flight for of till the 16-26th... Told my sis, I wished we could skip over to Phoenix one weekend might. :) I know this incredible band there that I'm a HUGE fan of!! :)
Yes Sir, I'm gettin a lil mic time, on friday nights with the ELIFINO band. (the name came from the phrase, 'hell if I know' which is what the guitarist would say when asked what drummer or bassist would be showing up to play on any given night. Thankfully now they're pretty solid.) The lead guitarist, Mark Allison And I, go way back... He's always been incredibly talented, and the rest of the guys are getting tighter fury week... Though only a welcomed guest, they make of feel like royalty... No, better yet, like family. :) we have an incredibly good time together. Unfortunately that's only once a week...other than that, whatever band, jam, or open mic I'm invited to...and then, there's always karaoke. Lol hope you're enjoying a little break, but anticipating the next gig... Will write more soon, and tell you about my Mothers day and birthday gifts coming up! :) big hugs, D
Hello my beautiful Bluesman... I sure hope your weekend is full of great music...but then, what else could it be? ...With CGB making the music... It'll be ssssmokin! :) Let me hear from you! ...We rocked the Blues last night! My Gosh I love what we do! :) big hugs, and a smooch on the cheek! :)
Hello my dear friend... Hopes it's as beautiful in your part of the world as it is in mine! Thinking of you, and wishing you all the best. Much love, Denise
Glen, The pleasure was all mine. I just wish I had known earlier there were some fun women to sit and talk with, other- wise I would have made a point to get there much earlier in the evening!
Maybe I'll get lucky and you and your wife and some of the band members can make it to The Monastery on McKellips/Greenfield area in Mesa on May 9th, 8-12pm to hear us! The band does an impressive Stairway to Heaven, among others. I just stand there beaming in awe because I'm surrounded by multitalented musicians!
I look forward to seeing all of you again, and hopefully Kim, Stacy and Nancy and the guys that were with them, I believe Rich and Mike (hope I got their names right) on May 2nd.
