About Common Strings

We are a four peace vocal band from North Georgia and Kentucky. Our style of music is played on acoustic/bluegrass insturments, but we strive to hold to our own creativity and expand the realm of our genre. DARRON and VANESSA NICHOLS have been together for over seven years. They found they had a connection right from the start, a "Common String" . That Common String was music, especially singing. Their haromnies meshed together in a way that is almost magical. Vanessa and Darron write most of the orginial songs that the group preforms and records. Darron plays the Mandolin and Vanessa plays rhythm and "Maybelle scratch" guitar. Our new project is a Gospel recording for Rural Rhythm Record's new label division, Rural Rhythm Christian. We ( Vanessa and I ) have reached way back in time to find the hymns and songs that our grandparents and great grandparents sang or brought to the Appalachian mountains from a cross the sea. We have some very special guest on this project that make it a must have CD. Produced and banjo played by Sammy Shelor, along with Mike Hartgrove on fiddle, Brandon Rickman on guitar, and vocal help from Dale Ann Bradley and Steve Gulley. We are pleased to have the new membership of Ed and Ben Jenkins to Common Strings. Ben is a up and coming banjo master and singer, Ed helps us hold everything together on the upright bass and he and wife Mary help us with the opperations. Watch for our new release, "Preaching by the Roadside in Appalachia " in stores January 26 2010

Your Grand Mother would always sing Gospel songs to me at Geneva's when I would visit.
