Register NOW for the 19th Anniversary of the Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia scheduled for July 18-20 in Roanoke, Virginia. Become a part of Virginia's Olympics and the Tradition of Excellence that has become a part of Virginia's amateur sports history. Since the inception of the Games in 1990 more than 152,000 athletes have competed in this annual event.

Who can compete?

All Virginia residents who have lived in Virginia at least 30 days prior to the date of competition are eligible if they meet the requirements specified by each sport.

How can I enter?

To enter any sport, register online at www.commonwealthgames.org. Find your sport and register online or print a copy of the registration - complete the form and mail it in.

Entry deadline:

Entry deadlines vary by sport. Some sports have late registration deadlines or on-site registration. Guarantee that you are able to play and register early. Each participant who registers online or on-site will receieve a free t-shirt.

Awards:
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded for first, second and third place finishes.

WHAT ARE THE COVENTRY COMMONWEALTH GAMES OF VA?

The Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia is an Olympic-style amateur sports festival for male and female athletes of all ages and abilities. The Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia is produced by Virginia Amateur Sports, Inc., a non-profit corporation located in Roanoke. The Games are sanctioned by the national governing body for State Games: the National Congress of State Games, the NCAA, the VHSL and recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as a State Games Participant.

Over 40 states have State Games competitions. The concept of the State Games movement is to provide an avenue for positive personal development through sports, to recognize dedication and achievement, to promote health, fitness, and the camaraderie of competition. The Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia, which includes both Olympic and non-Olympic sports, has grown from 4,465 participants in 29 sports in 1990, to over 9,000 athletes competing in 52 sports in 2006. The 2007 Games will feature these sporting events:

Archery, 3D Archery, Arm Wrestling, Auto Cross, Badminton, Basketball, Baseball - All Star, Biathlon, Billiards, Bowling, Canoeing, Cheerleading, Chess, Cycling-Hill Climb, Cycling-Mt. Biking, Disc Golf, Fencing, Field Hockey, Figure Skating, Golf-Junior, Golf-Little League, Gymnastics, Inline Hockey, Karate, Kayaking, Lacrosse-Boys, Lacrosse-Girls, Lacrosse-Middle School, Powerlifting, Racquetball, Run-5K, Run-1 Mile, Shooting-Defensive Handgun, Shooting-Rifle Sil., Shooting-Rifle Black Power, Shooting-3 Position Sporter Air Rifle, Shooting-Jr. Progressive, Shooting-3 Position Precision Air Rifle, Shooting-Air Pistol, Shooting-Jr. BB Rifle, Skateboarding, Soccer-Adult, Soccer-Youth, Softbal-Adult Slowpitch, Softball-Fastpitch, Softball-Youth Rec., Speedskating, Sporting Clays, Squash, Swimming-Masters, Swimming-Youth, Table Tennis, Tennis-Adult, Tennis-Youth, Texas Hold-em, Track & Field, Volleyball 2 on 2, Water Skiing, Wakeboarding, and Wrestling!

Ethan Zohn, Featured Speaker at the 2008 Opening Ceremonies!

Since being declared the winner of Survivor Africa, Ethan Sohn has founded, "Grassroot Soccer", a non-profit organization which trains Africa's professional soccer players to teach children about HIV/AIDS prevention. Ethan is a national spokesperson for America Scores, an organization that helps inner-city kids participate in educational soccer programs. His charity work also includes Kick AIDS, the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric Aids organization, YouthAids and the Colon Cancer Alliance. Ethan has appeared in TV commericals, hosted MTV specials, competed in Eco-Challenge and Fear Factor and appeared in various television, print media and speaking engagements.

I enjoyed the new course. One fewer bridge! I had a 19:56 and was 14th overall, 2nd in my age group, so I was happy with that. Looking forward to the race on July 19th.
