Community Roots is a collective gathering that takes place at Ashkenaz Community Center in Berkeley, California. The next Community Roots will be on Sunday, September 13th, 2009. We will come together to revel in the amazing artists, musicians, healers, artisans, organic vegan food, and community that we have available to us here in the bay area, and everywhere we find our family. Join us in planting this seed of community empowerment and celebration!!
This month's event will kick off with a powerful discussion panel focusing on the topic:
"URBAN CULTURE, MUSIC, AND SPIRITUALITY", featuring the voices of heavyweights: Killah Priest (emcee of Wu Tang Clan Family), Bobby Seale (founding member of The Black Panthers), Davey D. (Hip Hop Historian & Journalist of Hard Knock Radio), Dawn-Elissa Fischer (a.k.a. the "D.E.F. Professor" of SFSU), Big Dan (Chicano Hip Hop Storyteller of Brwn Bflo), and Nikila-MamaWisdom (local singer/lyricist/artist/dancer/youth advocate/community activist). Moderated by Kentyah (Producer of Interstellar Dub Collective, and Legba's Light). Discussion will be from 8-9pm, followed by an incredible lineup of music and art. About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D

Our 40th Anniversary of Woodstock Concert, produced by WoodFest Productions in association with Musicians for Peace, will be a 3-day outdoor festival at the 60 acre Washita Hideaway in Davis, OK. It will have some of the hottest tribute bands around and happens August 14-16, the same weekend as the original festival. This project stems from the vision to play tribute to both the pure love of music and to the artists, producers and concert goers that together made Woodstock the historic and cultural event it was then and will be for generations to come.
