MoviesThis week’s show will focus on Generation M and the effects the media has on us. Today’s teens have become very dependent on technology and it is beginning to affect their health habits. They are living in a society that continues to project the easy way out with out displaying the negative effects that it will lead up to. This week’s show will address health issues, teen drinking, and pollution problems. Hopefully this will help teens choose a healthier life style. About me:
Gun violence rates extremely high, and gun violence is the second leading cause of death among teenagers in America. Every year, an average of 3,000 youth are shot and killed. In Chicago, gun violence claims the lives of over 20 public school students each year. This week’s episode of Hard Cover, “Stop The Violence”, will address the devastating effects of this growing epidemic and present ways that we can help to stop the violence..................................... Air Dates: August 11, 2008 @ 5:30pm August 12, 2008 @ 12:30pm August 18, 2008 @ 5:30pm August 19, 2008 @ 12:30pm ....................................................................

CTVN was founded in 1974 by Executive Director Denise Zaccardi as a special project of the Alternative Schools Network. Since then, over 8,000 at-risk Chicago youth have graduated from CTVN’s long-term programs, producing insightful media for their communities.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our mission is to empower low-income young adults and children in Chicago to identify, address, and resolve issues through the use and understanding of digital media arts. By learning how to express themselves through video production, youth gain the opportunity to investigate their cultural roots and think critically about the world they live in while presenting their ideas to a nationwide audience.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch "In Their Words," an episode of Community, Media & You, originally aired on CAN TV in Chicago on May 10, 2008. In this episode, Community TV Network Advanced Youth Producers Cedric Hester & Sylvester Raggs, as well as Executive Director, Denise Zaccardi speak up about the real issues for Chicago's urban youth. .....................................

.. _______________________________________________________________

As applied by the CTVN media-literacy curriculum, video continually proves to be a successful, alternative method of enhancing academic learning, developing essential skills that are prerequisite to success in other subjects. Through production and on-the-job media training, youth develop job skills, leadership abilities, teamwork, organization, time management, visual aptitude, and literacy. ________________

Community TV Network, in collaboration with Alternative Schools Network is thrilled to invite you to view exceptional youth created media at our first ever Chicago Youth Community Film Festival.

Youth participants hail from 12 community based alternative high schools and a multitude of diverse neighborhoods including North Lawndale, Bronzeville, Austin, Rogers Park, Uptown, and Pilsen. These youth have united their unique voices and talents to illuminate a breadth of relevant issues including coping with teen depression, making the right choices in the face of adversity, and putting a stop to youth violence.

This event is an opportunity to bring everyone together to share and celebrate their achievements. Check out the attached flyer for all the details. See you there!____________________________________________________________
