Influences
Alcohol, strife and men! Oh you mean bands??? All of us have our own musical tastes, but tend to cross at times. Jen is really into Placebo, 80’s synth music and early punk. Helen tends to err on the side of indie, but has a fondness for 90’s style grunge. Ella comes from a punk / psychobilly background but also likes loads of other things (too many to list she says). Becks is another indie chick and is into Suede, Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Foo Fighters. We all seem to agree on stuff like Blondie, Queens of the Stone Age, Police, the Jam amongst others. So from this you can see when we write stuff anything can happen and anything often does. Songs can start with anything, a lyric, a riff, a beat and will then take on a life of its own. We only ever write about our own experiences and the songs tend to be quite personal as a result.
Jenny, Ella and Helen reformed Compact Pussycat in 2004, with Annalee on vocals. A little while later Annalee went to Scotland and Alix joined, when she left for Canada in 2007, Becky took over mic duties. Throughout all this time we got on with the business of playing gigs as often as possible, writing new material and recording a few EP's. 'Check It Out' was recorded in 2005, 'Bang!'in 2006 (both recorded at Plug Studios) and in 2007 'My Scene' (recorded at Tubestation Studios, Norwich). This CD is still available from us directly for only £3 plus P&P.
We have been back in the studio in 2008 and recorded a new EP (Red, Amber, Go!) featuring the songs on our MySpace player - Filthy, Connected, Alive and Modification (plus 2 bonus covers - done with the utmost respect for the originals). This CD was recorded at Old School Studios (engineered by Jason) and we are very happy with the result. So if you would like a copy, we are charging just £4 (please send us a message or come along to one of the gigs listed above and we will happily hand one over). That's less than I-Tunes per track! And you get the CD and artwork, how old fashioned!
In the last couple of years we have been lucky enough to play with some awesome bands: The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, The Vibrators, Devlish Presley, The Skulls, Red Flag 77, Goober Patrol, The Incidentals, Fletch Cadillac to name a few. While we're here, we'd also like to thank Captain Sensible and Goldblade for their kind words and support of the band.
In the meantime we welcome comments from people all over the world, but can you please hold back on irrelevent advertising (we don't mind local gigs)!
Dear Friend, finally it is out! The LONG expected release of our EP "Interrupted (Triptych I)" !!!
