Being that I am a saxophonist, keyboardist, drummer, singer, and composer ("music is my life, man"), this is WAY too big a category to give a comprehensive answer to, so, I'll just name some of the artists who have inspired me (in no particular order or genre classification, and by no means all-inclusive): Dream Theater, Chick Corea, Shostakovich, 3, Tangerine Dream, Iron Maiden, Michael Brecker, Prokofiev, Rush, Dio, Jerry Goldsmith, John Coltrane, Queensryche, Michael Kamen, Holst, Billy Cobham, ELP, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Kansas, Buddy Rich, Leonard Bernstein, Story Of The Year, Woody Herman, James Horner, Return To Forever, John Williams, Ricky Skaggs, Duran Duran, Tenacious D, Oingo Boingo, Steve Speigl, Mahler, Robert Miles, Chuck Mangione, Boston, The Crystal Method, Fates Warning, John Tesh, Missing Persons, Evanescence, Frank Sinatra, Blue Murder, Steve Morse, Hoobastank, Mannheim Steamroller, Mad At Gravity, The Sex Pistols, Jan Hammer, Fear, Styx...and just about anything that moves me in some way.
LFG FANS... PLEASE ADD MY MAIN PROFILE AT: www.myspace.com/davebmitchell (I don't check this music page nearly as often, and I love keeping in touch with all of you)...THANKS!
Dave Mitchell is a jazz and classically-trained instrumentalist and composer. Born into a musical household in Tullahoma, Tennessee on July 25, 1969, Dave showed signs of his future career path at an early age, never missing an opportunity to perform for family and friends. At the age of three, Dave moved with his family to Colorado, where he would first discover and develop his talents through heavy involvement in the band and theater programs all throughout his schooling. Graduating from high school in 1987 after receiving numerous awards for music and acting, Dave attended the University of Colorado in Boulder with a scholarship as a Saxophone Performance major. In 1990, Dave moved to Boston to form a progressive rock band with long-time friend Doug Johnston, who was attending the Berklee College of Music, and spent many hours in the studios there as a freelance composer, singer, saxophonist, and keyboardist. After living for four years in Boise, Idaho, Dave returned to Denver in 2001, where he met and befriended Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Bob Berg, with whom he frequently collaborated (including scoring several episodes of the internet soap opera City's Edge, and the award-winning short sci-fi film Orthogenesis). Three years later, at the urging of his agent and other friends in the industry, Dave finally took the leap and moved to LA to pursue voiceover as a full-time career. Currently, he is a very busy voice actor, but continues to compose and record original music in his well-equipped home studio. Combining his twin loves of music and acting, Dave lends his voice (both speaking and singing) to the character of Richard from the popular webcomic Looking For Group, and will be playing the role in the upcoming feature film based on the comic.
