William Taylor (b.1979) began his musical career in Chicago, Illinois. He studied percussion at an early age before turning his attention toward the guitar and composition. He studied guitar with Fareed Haque prior to attending Columbia College Chicago and completing his degree in composition and music direction. William studied advanced composition with Sebastian Huydts, Gustavo Leone and Doug Lofstrom and studied conducting and advanced analysis with James MacDonald. His early chamber compositions, The New Science and Quantum Foam were met with great enthusiasm and resulted in a commission from cellist Sarah Barton Alexander, who performed on both of these works. The commissioned piece, Directions, is scored for solo Violoncello piccolo and was well received at multiple concerts. Mr. Taylor worked as assistant composer to Robert Nassif. He assisted Mr. Nassif with score editing and orchestration for the Carol Burnett and Carrie Hamilton play Hollywood Arms. The play premiered at the Chicago Goodman Theater on April 19, 2002 under the direction of legendary Broadway director Harold Prince. Mr. Taylor has arranged and composed music for The Second City theater group, The Chicago New Music Ensemble and the Chicago Zither Orchestra. William acted as music director and percussionist for Doug Lofstrom’s musical The Ugly Duckling, which was performed in 2003. He teaches guitar, composition, conducting and music theory privately and currently resides as Music Director for the Chicago Zither Orchestra, a post he has held since 2004. Mr. Taylor has appeared as a guest guitarist and recording artist for Chicago bands including Plague Bringer and Spare Parts. On September 1st 2007 William premiered his duet for violin and cello entitled "Vows". The piece was commissioned to commemorate the marriage of the composer’s close friend. In addition to piano, orchestral and chamber works, William Taylor is currently at work on a new musical entitled “Brotherhood”.

I was raised in Cleveland after life on my Grandparent's farm in Red Hill, Virginia. While in Cleveland, my Father exposed me to the most magnificent classical recordings extant. Now, I must let all of you in on the best kept secret in our neighborhood.
Michael Palmieri, modern classical composer, and a Top Friend of mine on multiple sites here, has been discovering veritable gems of video clips from the Google YouTube network and posting them on his blog on his site. For the past few months, I have been treated to some of the most astonishing classical masterpieces as I listened to these composers and superb musicians perform.
I know that the musical offerings in our neighborhood are vast. The immensity and breadth of the musicians on myspace is mind boggling; however, I would strongly encourage you to visit his page for less than 5 minutes per day to listen to what he has brought to our neighborhood. While there, drop a few lines of appreciation in Michael Palmieri's blog comment section, for the musicians who have stood head and shoulders above the rest, to enrich the world, on a cultural and musical level, for all of us.
Not a day goes by that I don't stop by Mr. Palmieiri's site to listen to these fine musicians and join in the discussion, or merely to make a keen observation.
