What’s at the center of the circle connecting free-jazz, electronica, and experimental fusion? Is it a bass-drums-sax-keys quartet? Concentric’s unique brand of acid jazz breaks down the boundaries of various musical genres and continually fabricates a fresh and cohesive musical style in itself. The four current members have spiraled through the country – Philly, New Mexico, Missippi, Cincinnati- all along the way absorbing influences & ideas to utilize in Austin, resulting in an ideal instrumental brew of intellect and intensity. The group captures elements from influences such as electric Miles Davis, Tortoise, and DJ Spooky with its fusion of live spontaneity and modern technology, while their melding of synths, samples and familiar sounds produce fresh and defiant melodies over infectious grooves.
The Concentric debut is an independent eponymous CD with 13 original groundbreaking compositions that emerged in the fall of 2003. In 2006, they are exploring more territory and performing their spontaneous mind-bending jazz around Austin.
