I know it's a cliche... but my mom, may she rest in peace. She was the most generous, compassionate, intelligent, hard working and supportive person I've ever known. Her family came first, no matter what. I'll never stop missing her and I'll never get over losing her. I love you, Mom.
My dad, who I love dearly, respect immensely, and who, no matter how hard it was sometimes, always made sure we had everything we needed. Dad worked incredibly hard at everything he did, was good at everything he did, believed in everything he did and instilled upon me the importance of doing the same. For this, I am eternally grateful. ....That, *grin* and putting me on skis at the age of 4 and teaching me how to ride a motorcycle at 12.
Years ago, back in the East Village of New York, when it was still a neighborhood and a pretty cool tight-knit community of misfits like myself, I started making leather clothing. Just for fun, and at that time, just for me. I’d graduated from Parsons with a Fine Art degree, so fashion design was not really part of my vision....
My friends, however, had other plans for me.
It started with a pair of refurbished leather pants for my friend Erik and before I knew it I had acquired a new career and the nickname leatherwoman. I don't who decided on the name (it wasn't me, tho I have to admit I was amused) but it stuck and did a pretty good job of setting me up with some steady work for some pretty great people. While leather is still my specialty, I adore working in materials and fabrics of all kinds and I design exotic fashions that vary from sexy lace lingerie to hardcore leather fetish gear to kick-ass rock n roll gear and ultra-feminine gothic Victorian corsets. ...Anything deviant, dark, erotic, mysterious or controversial. I mostly work with private clients these days, although I do still maintain a small line of off-the-peg leather and PVC fashions for select boutiques and online stores under my label Confession NY.
