~ For reasons out of our control Faith and the Muse, Paul Mercer, and Serpentine will not be able to join us this year.
Abney Park:
Abney Park comes from an era that never was, but one that we wish had been. An era where airships waged war in the skies, and corsets and cummerbunds were proper adventuring attire. They’ve picked up their bad musical habits, scoundrelous musicians, and anachronistically hybridized instruments from dozens of locations and eras that they have visited in their travels and thrown them into one riotous dervish of a performance. Expect clockwork guitars, belly dancers, flintlock bassists, middleastern percussion, violent violin, and Tesla powered keyboards blazing in a post- apocalyptic, swashbuckling, Steampunk musical mayhem.
Soriah w/Ashkelon Sain:
Atlan has its roots in the ceremonial: ritualism, shamanism, butoh. Master Tuvan throat singer Soriah teams up with prolific soundscaper Ashkelon Sain to create a totally breathtaking album. Soriah conjures up a haunting sonic otherworld, drifting, dreamy, a rumbling, whirring ambient dronescape, thick with natural timbre and dense with subtle overtones. The eleven tracks employ a host of Central Asian ethnic stringed instruments alongside atmospheric synths and hypnotic hand percussion to form a simmering backdrop for Soriah's mesmerizing vocals intoned in the ancient Aztec language of Nahuatl.
:::Soriah:::
The Portland musician and ritual artist known as Soriah (a.k.a. Enrique Ugalde) first came into being more than 10 years ago. His unique vision has evolved to draw equally from performance and musical traditions both modern and ancient--- raga, shamanism, the revisionist arts of electro-acoustics, noise, butoh, and free improvisation. Through costume, movement and meditation Soriah evokes an otherworld of profound mystical import. Though the settings for his performances have ranged from arenas, concert halls and churches to swamps, caves, tree tops and even an abandoned nuclear reactor, his project carries its own sense of place and time, which transcend the concrete world. The recorded works of Soriah were previously available in limited editions from Beta-Lactam Ring Records. This is his first retail release.
::: Ashkelon Sain in his own words :::
I am a consummate recording artist, music producer and composer. From 1993-2001 I led the critically acclaimed Darkwave band Trance to the Sun, and more recently I performed as a member of the Portland psych-goth group Submarine Fleet. Through the past two decades I have participated in extensive collaborations with other artists I deem unique and intriguing, among them Scarlet Slipping, Cinema Strange, Dead Fly Ensemble, Claire Voyant, and most recently, Soriah.
My interest lies in creating high-quality musical recordings that echo landmasses, oceans, rivers and phormations. Through the use of soaring melodies, hypnotic rhythms, and chilling chords, I strive to render music that transcends the space and time of its creation: a music that succeeds in exuding a feeling of insistent otherworldliness.
Ariellah:
Ariellah studied classical ballet extensively with the Royal Academy of Dance of London for twelve years, beginning at age three. After a break from dance that included graduating from UC Davis and two years in the Peace Corps on Africa's Ivory Coast, she returned to the United States eager to learn the dance of her Moroccan ancestry.
Trying her hand at belly dance had been a lifelong goal, and was a natural extension of Ariellah's dance career and life experience. Her pursuit of belly dance began with the Folkloric style of Janine Ryle, who studied with San Francisco belly dance institution Hahbi'Ru. Ariellah eventually became a part of Janine's troupe, Danse Maghreb in which she performed mostly Algerian Berber dances. With Ariellah's roots grounded firmly in the culture and tradition of North Africa, belly dance was a natural fit for her. Janine encouraged her desire to learn from as many sources as possible, and suggested that she take classes with Rachel Brice, who is currently one of the most sought after belly dancers in the world and is currently touring internationally with The Bellydance Superstars and The Indigo. Ariellah began studying Tribal Fusion belly dance with Rachel Brice in early 2002 and became a founding member of Rachel's Indigo Belly Dance Company in 2003.
Ariellah has become a renown international instructor and performer. She is an icon in the fusion belly dance community and has been featured in several different magazines, books, radio shows, and articles all over the world. In 2004, Ariellah won first place in the Star Fusion category of Sirens In Sanity's belly dance competition, Enchanted Camelot, held in Benecia, CA. Ariellah was also featured in the first of its kind, "Gothic Belly Dance: The Darker Side of Fusion" DVD; released in spring 2006, with the sequel, "Revelations" released in the fall of 2007. Ariellah is also featured on performance DVDs "Bellydance Underworld", "Tribal Revolution" and many others. Currently Ariellah's first instructional DVD, "Contemporary Belly Dance and Yoga Conditioning" is one of the top selling and top rated belly dance DVDs on the market today. Please check out the reviews at: www.amazon.com.
Ariellah's style reflects and infuses her personal interpretation of Middle Eastern belly dance, with a modern, dark flavour, that is uniquely her own. She is widely known for her strong stage presence and unrivaled technique. Her performances are designed to mesmerize and invoke emotion and the darker, more passionate side of dance. Ariellah believes her style emanates from the passion and contentment that belly dance has brought to her life, as well as the infusion of her lifelong involvement in the gothic subculture, allowing her to fully express herself in a unique and beautifully dark way.
Seraphic Society:
Crossover to a sublime dream world with Seraphic Society (formerly Black Cat). We are an ever changing surreal ensemble of performance and visual artists experimenting with music, exploring concepts, ritual and story telling.
Legion Within
Founded in 2000 by songwriter and vocalist William Wilson, Legion Within’s distinctive sound quickly established them among the best of their genre. Having their feet planted firmly in both romantic darkwave and classic industrial, they have shared the stage with compatriots on Projekt Records including Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Voltaire, and Audra, as well as Collide.
In creating their third release, The Empty Men, Legion Within have partnered with the production gurus of KMFDM; Jules Hodgson, Steve White and Sascha Konietzko. The Empty Men expresses bleak political sentiment and pulsing industrial beats (“Fascisti”, “Rise”) while retaining their dark romantic roots (“Wrath of the Empty Men”, “She Chides”, “Led Astray”).
This is a top band and an absolute discovery that let's us hear that
gothic rock can still be alive and kicking... This is simply excellent.

Among the Weeds:
Among the Weeds first appeared in 2003 as the unofficial solo side- project of Rose, who was an already accomplished vocalist in a few bands. Even though she had covered a lot of musical territory in those projects, she always felt there was more to explore. What began as just a means to create without restraint would become something more; eventually. As any musician knows, there are many struggles in this lifestyle; and after so much frustration over not being able to technically execute the songs as they were meant to be, she decided to take a break from the project and music as a whole shortly thereafter.
Fast forward to late 2006 when Rose was introduced to Mike by a mutual friend; the then vocalist in Alaska Highway; a project that Mike began in England in 1996. Upon hearing some of her carefully crafted demos, Mike initially agreed to Engineer /Produce the Among the Weeds debut album, but it ended up quickly becoming a much more permanent arrangement. This new-found partnership included several performances together during Alaska Highway shows.
After working towards finishing the album as a duo with a heavy emphasis on the electronic edge, two close personal friends were invited to join the line-up to add a rougher, more organic feel to the songs by providing bass and guitar. Only one of these friends became a permanent member; Jovan has become a key element to the Among the Weeds sound, a strange creature that the band themselves have difficulty in defining as influences range from early 80s Electronic, Death Rock , Pop, and Metal through to Motown, Blues and most things in between.
As of summer 2009, the album ‘Frail Tin Beauty’ has been released, shows are scheduled and the follow-up album is already in the works.
Adian H and The Wounds
Hailing from the Texas music scene of Dallas and Austin, Adrian H moved to the northwest and birthed songs that would make your mother cry. Adrian H and The Wounds have a sound that is sinfully soulful and reminiscent of a night in a velvety dark room full of hallucinations, secrets and song. His voice is dark and icy and evokes impassioned stories of love, faith and loss. His post-goth, dark-glam style stirs up comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. His lyrics are a reflection of his unorthodox religious upbringing. Adrian H and The Wounds are skilled with the language of violence and sharp wit. They cut to the core and make no apologies like a good Charles Bukowski story. If you like your music with a twist of raw emotion, then don’t miss Adrian H and The Wounds.
Orryelle Defenestrate-Bascule
Sonic and Visual OrChastrations of Magick and/as Art.,
Deep gnosis of HermAphroditic convergence of apparent dualities.
Musickal Theatrical Ritual
Aural invocation
EsSensual wo/manifestation of alchymic coagulation.
Orryelle is a two-in-one-wo/man-band; a souloist (and usually a soloist- for the sake of simplicity especially when travelling) of subtlety and ecstatic intent.
Orryelle is as much a theatrickallist as musician when performing, incorporating dance, mask, costume, and invocation (the source of true 'acting', ie. becoming). With other performers this extends into the MetaMorphic Ritual Theatre Co.
The sounds Orryelle produces are consistently varied: 'Kalikaye' and 'Begotten' are Eastern-Experimental, PanDaemonAeon (with former band Mutation Parlour) demonstrates a heavier industrial-electronic-with-ambient-edges sound, while 'Babalon' features semi-sung semi-spoken word over a post-classical orchestral improvisation with 9 musickians. For a more electronic track view 'Gam' in the videos section, and for solo whimsical clockwork/clockplay wyrdness, Watch the 'Chaos-Clock' video.
Land of the Blind:
THE BLIND have been leading the blind for many years, starting in Portland and ending up in SF. A world trance dance project that slowly distilled itself down to it's essence, like green faerie juice, to just the power of three. CYOAKHA GRACE O'MANION, green irish witch, journeying through the deep underworld with haunting tones and sounds, she has won awards around the world for her soundcrafting, singing and production of 6 indie cds. Press has called her voice and vision: "Laurie Anderson meets The Bulgarian Women's Choir" and "a soaring seduction of a singer" "world music sounds that are out of this world" and her favorite; "Jim Morrison's daughter". Cyoakha will bring the dark drones of the Indian Harmonium, her created Burning Man beats, live looping & haunting voice.
KRYSTOV, master Didjeridu player will add more deep earth sounds. He uses the didjeridu as a energy force coming out of the ground, for trance, for connection to tribe, for sound healing. He is a doctor-shaman-sound inventor and has performed around the world with BLIND from Frindge Fest Australia to Burning Man. REGINA LAROCCA will join THE BLIND from Portland, where she used to tour with them on bass for years. Reg comes from a punk avant background (M99s) and so adds another layer of DEEP DARK TRANCE with her special style of medieval bass.
Protea:
Protea is Serena Toxicat's thorny, sharp-clawed, 21st century
brainchild. She recommends that you enjoy a tincture of this
mysterious flower in a cozy dungeon with a crystal divinatory pendulum
and a cup of catnip tea.
This intensely personal, dark experimental project has grown to
include a small constellation of guest musicians in the electronic
idiom, including a thereminist and an ARP drone artist.
Its manifestation into form has come about through technologies of
varying strata, from low budget to high end, and has never included
any stock loops or sounds, rather soundscapes crafted from found aural
sources.
A priestess of Bast, Sekhmet and Isinephthys ordained in the
Fellowship of Isis at Isis Oasis temple and ocelot sanctuary, Serena
celebrates the Ancient Egyptian pantheon with gnosis and devotion in a
matrix of ether and artful "noise".
Since the release of The Osiris Tree one Winter Solstice, Protea has
been featured on several compilations and will release a second
full-length album in time for this year's Conflux.

DJ Horrid:
I DJ. I do other things as well, naturally, but this is my dj bio. I kind of started in in the late 80s when I was the Dj in an amusement park playing The Cult, Jane's Addiction, and Fishbone for some spinning ride that made people throw up a lot. The few alterna-kids there loved it! 1991 (?) put me on an "alternative" radio station in Danbury CT called WXCI (I went by DJ SCAB back then). From there I had an opportunity to start doing local NY State clubs suck as the the legendary Images, and later its bastard offspring; The Boardwalk and the Briar Patch (affectionately referred to as The Snatch Patch). Then I moved to NYC. I filled in at some of the bigger clubs (The Bank, Limelight, Pyramid) and then the goth scene got kind of lame; I blame techno and Nirvana. I started DJing metal nights at the old Scrap Bar, Coyote Ugly before it became a sideshow act, and other trendy bars in Manhattan's lower east side. Moving to Portland Oregon breathed new life into my old gothic self, and I started the Hive night (with Dean and DJ Blackout) I have also have done/do Dementia, Darkside, The Opium Den, AUTOMATIC, Reflux and random stuff at Sabala's. After one year, I retired from Hive and did parties, some fetish nights at Berbatti's, Fright Town, plus two Vampire Balls, Sick, and the Blasphemy Ball. I had 2 shifts during Convergence 13 and I have to say, I had a fucking blast. My current regular night is SHADOWPLAY ON Thursdays and ATOMIC every 2nd Saturday at the Fez. I strongly believe in taking requests, mixing up genres, and try and get the dance floor going. On any given night expect to hear goth, metal, ebm, 80s, punk, industrial, and cartoon music. I do not give a shit about beat matching, I simply try to entertain.
DJ Medusa:
I am one of the several regular guest djs for Dementia, a recurring bi-weekly event at The Fez Lounge. I'm the one you come to when you need to hear that extra-special old Wax Trax! hit you haven't heard in forever but just gotta dance to it.
You'll hear anything from pulsing rhythmic beats overlaid with screaming electronics to nice synthpoppy melodies, classic Wax Trax! to modern Hands and Ant-Zen artists, Metropolis hits to a lot of B-sides you probably don't hear as much... Just expect to hear a lot of rhythmicnoisetechnofunkpunkelectronicfuturesynthharshindustrialbodymusic and a little *ahem* goth - when the mood and night is right...
Monika.MHZ:
At the forefront of the "Controllerist" movement, ms. mhz left her turntables behind 5 years ago and dove into the domain of the digital DJ. Not content with losing the visual element of the mix, she began to experiment with utilizing MIDI controllers in a unique way to expand the visual component of the digital mix and allow her to continue putting on the incredible live show she's become known for. She customizes all her controllers herself, and with her intimate electronics knowledge has even designed and built a few. Controllerism gave the DJ a way to expand beyond the mouse and extend her art to keep dazzling dance floors across the world. From a guitar to a keyboard it all helps give this "Rockstar DJ" the mind-blowing show from which she draws her name.
When Not DJing, she can be found in her studio working on the next hit remix or original track to blast out of speakers worldwide. Classically trained on the piano and saxophone, her studio looks like something of a hodge podge of classical instruments and new age synths and computers. But don't let that fool you, with a MIDI saxophone in hand, she can work magic. Producing the wide range from hip hop to electro/industrial, she's got the same broad range producing and remixing as she does DJing! What's coming up from Mhz Studios? Wait and see...
Specializing in Gothic, Deathrock, Darkwave, Industrial, EBM, Elektro, Punk, Techno, Trance, House, Ethereal Wave, 80s, and New Wave, Monika.MHZ may just be coming to rock a dance floor near you.

DJ Wednesday:
Originally based in Los Angeles DJ Wednesday was a staple in the LA scene for well over a decade. Her radio show Generation Death was touted as the longest running Goth radio show, with 14 years of history. In the clubs Wednesdays diverse style has been instrumental in the growth of the Shoegaze and Post-punk scene through her residence at Violaine. Wednesdays was a resident DJ at Bar Sinister ( Hollywood, CA) for over 6 years as well as guest deejayed at infamous LA clubs such as Ruin, Das Bunker, Eternal and Hex Hollywood. In addition to her guest spots she co-promoted/created , Wumpskate, Los Angeles’s only all ages roller skating event. Musically her DJ style includes a heavy dose of Goth, Ethereal, Shoegaze, Dark 80’s, Dark Wave and Post-Punk. Since re-locating to Portland in late 2008, Wednesday has guest deejayed at Dementia, Oubliette, Hive and Shadowplay as well as starting her own monthly night Brickbat Mansion. In addition to these guest spots, Wednesday was also fortunate to be apart of Convergence 13 ( 2007) and Conflux (2008) in Portland, Oregon.

Black Lotus Clothing:
The Black Lotus clothing line is a collection of unique, hand-sewn pieces inspired by the SF Bay Area belly dance scene. Christina Molcillo, the founder and designer, was introduced to the world of belly dancing in 2002 when she attended a performance by the San Francisco troupe Fat Chance Bellydance, who specialize in ‘American tribal’ dancing. She was struck by the innovative and unique nature of the costumes, and how they helped to enhance the drama of the dancer’s movements. As an artist from the Academy of Art college with a background that includes illustration, costume, and fashion design, she recognized the opportunity for her to become a part of this exciting scene, channeling her creative energies towards a medium in which she could use her skills to create a clothing line that could be as functional as it was theatrical. She delved into the world of belly dance completely, taking up classes with Celena (the "Killer Ziller") and performing throughout the Bay Area with troupe Illumination. In those years, she experimented with her own costumes, discovering what worked while performing, and what didn’t. Three years later, with the help from a former troupe member Jennifer “From the Fig Tree” Black Lotus was officially launched. What makes Black Lotus unique is the care that goes into making each piece. Designs are painstakingly silk-screened onto individual parts, details like beads and feathers are carefully placed , and every garment is an original creation. The end result is a costume that serves a purpose as well as tells a story. Christina’s vision is to transform the dancer into a storyteller, that the clothes and the dance combined lure the viewer into the performance, the perfect melding of artist and audience. The care that goes into each creation guarantees that it’s beauty in no way interferes with its functionality, the pieces are meant to be worn time and again, even during the most arduous dance. Black Lotus Clothing is beginning to gain notice among some of the most talented performers in the Bay Area bellydance scene. With more pieces being added to the line, you are sure to find an ensemble that will help to emphasize the beauty of your performance, whether you are a beginner or a professional. If you can’t find exactly what you need, most pieces can be custom tailored to fit your specific needs, just ask!

First and foremost I am an Artist, although I do use a camera it is merely a tool and not the medium. The imagery I create is usually of a darker nature and often pushing social boundaries which is what I believe art should always do. Art should never be safe, that is a crime in of itself. Transgressive Ideas tend to spill from my head constantly and that is what is to be expected. Giving shape to the creatures that twist inside me is how I cope with the outside world. I am only 1 of 9 billion or so voices on earth, So I am trying to use my art like a bullhorn in a Library. I will not make you pretty by media standards but i will make you beautiful by MY standards. the two are often different. I dont shoot maxim or SG style so look elsewhere, but i can offer truly one of a kind ideas and concepts in the best possible light.
