I'm a graduate of Washington and Lee University School of Law. My undergraduate degree in Government was earned at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. My wife, Maryellen, and I live in Roanoke, and have been married for 33 years. We have two children, Jennifer and Rob. My service to the Sixth District began in 1977, when I became District Director for former Congressman M. Caldwell Butler. In 1979, I founded a private law practice and later became a partner in the law firm of Bird, Kinder and Huffman, working there from 1981, until my election to Congress, in 1993.
