LeRoy Rodrigues, originally from Kauai, Hawaii, formed Conjunto Alegre in 1979, in Vallejo, CA. From 1975 - 1979, while living in Hawaii, LeRoy performed with a band called Los Borinquenos, along with lead singer for Conjunto Alegre, Carlos Arguinzoni-Gil. Conjunto Alegre plays traditional dance rhythms in addition to salsa, guajira, bomba, bolero, as well as seis. Jibaro rhythms are all handled with respect and fineses. Conjunto Alegre is a musical group with the taste of Puerto Rico and is committed to keep up with the traditions of our roots. The band includes members from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, San Francisco, New York, and New Jersey. Conjunto Alegre has played in various night clubs in the San Francisco Bay area, Sacramento, Stockton, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), Humbolt College, toured Hawaii, and just recently (10/06) returned from a "Conjunto Alegre Salsa Cruise" to Ensenada. Conjunto Alegre is currently enjoying great success around the globe with their debut CD "Cuando Me Toque Parti." May 6, 2006 their CD made it to the ..1 spot on CIUT in Toronto, Canada and are continuously on the charts in Canada. Conjunto Alegre had the privilege of having Luisito Rosario perform with the band (2005), while in Hawaii for the Annual Salsa/Thon. Conjunto Alegre, also had the privilege of having the one and only Julius Melendez, sit in on several occassions while performing in the bay area.
