Interests

  • General

Local Music, Independent Artistry, Intellectuals, Anti-Republicrats, Demonology, Subjective Relativism, Art Teachers, Cynicism and Cyanide, Philosophy and Formaldehyde, Dogs.
  • Music

Gothy, Angry, Grungy, Techy, Industrialy... and any music written from the young heart of an old spirit. *EXCEPT* for Emo, Country, Gangsta Rap, and Bruce Springsteen. You gotta draw the line someplace.
  • Television

None. TV and playing cards are things to do when you're in prison or in a retirement home. I've got too many things to do to waste time on crap TV programming.
  • Books

Yes, thank you. I like books, especially books that scare, excite, titilate, disturb or otherwise push your emotional buttons.
  • Heroes

My parents for giving me a (relatively) normal childhood. Thanks to them, I have no good reason to be pissed off about anything, and that really pisses me off.

My Top Artists

Blurbs

About me:

I'm a horror author from Minneapolis, MN, which in and of itself is pretty frightening.

About Being a Horror Author:

“Oh.”

That's the second of two “Oh”s I tend to encounter when meeting new people. The first is when people discover that I’ve written a book.

“Oh!”

That’s the first one. It contains properties of surprise, and positive expression: eyes open, lips curl slightly upward. This is of course followed by:

“What kind of books do you write?”

I used to answer, “Dark Fantasy” but I don’t like to lie. Any story with the word “eviserated” in it falls into one category: “Horror.”

“Oh.”

There’s the second one I was telling you about. Eyes narrow, lips curl slightly downward, sometimes there is a notable shudder. Like Winnie the Pooh said, its ’something that gets you’. The spirit of the art that possesses people is always a pleasant one. I’d rather be happy drawing pictures of unicorns or something, but you have to play the hand you’re dealt.

On Being a Horror Author from the Midwest:

Let’s be honest, Minneapolis is great… in the summer. But when the temp drops to the point where molecular motion nearly stops there isn’t much to do except sleep, drink, and write either progressive rock music or horror novels. Ask Björk, she knows…

Who I'd like to meet:

I like to meet artists; people who create things. Writers, painters, musicians, sculptors, directors, producers, architects, etc... These are people who shape the world.

I'd like to meet Metal Sanaz too, because she's smoking hot. Makes me want to be worth interviewing...

    Hey there!!

    What's new in your world???????

I was going to go camping over the weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends went to check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.

Speaking of music, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a project called Sonic Transformations. It is a series of audio-visual performance pieces. The first one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". It features live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.

Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.

    Here's the info:

Blood Root Mother - "An Object to Crave"
w/ The Magnetrons & Thought Thieves
    Friday, October 16th
    Station 4
    201 E 4th St
    St Paul, MN 55101
    9pm / $5 / 18+

We'd love to see ya there!

    Peace,
    Elliot

Thank you for the friend request!  Heh heh, I also get the "Oh" response (the second one) when people learn I write horror.  Apparently, proper Southern ladies aren't supposed to enjoy that kind of stuff.  Go figure.

Best of luck with your writing!
