Original catchy funky riffs with plenty of bass, pounding drums and rangey feminine vocals.
History: Alex and Matt formed the band mid 2004 and immediately started writing original material. On the lookout for a bassist, they found Josh who jammed with them a couple of times and officially joined them January 2005. The line-up was completed when Steph joined in late Spring 2005. By the time Steph joined the band, the boys had already composed several tracks, many of them premiered during the Newbury Carnival Battle of the Bands and the HADCAF Performing Arts Contest in East Garston. Both events occurred on the same day and Conscience won both competitions; Steph had been with the band only three weeks. Their prizes for the competitions were opening for renowned Reading band Libor Spacek and a days recording session at Sour Apple Studios in Newbury where their first 3 track demo was recorded.
George Millard was added to the line up on saxophone early 2006 and after many gigs further afield, a second 5 track e.p. "The Runk Experience" was recorded in the summer which has been snapped up like hot cakes from their ever growing fanbase.
March 2007 saw Conscience win Newbury's Battle of the Bands competition, coming out top in a fiercly contested final, playing in front of an audience of nearly 600 people. With the prize of a days recording and a New Greenham Arts gig as well many future gigs planned, the future looks bright for the youngsters from Newbury.
"The catchy, Red Hot Chili Pepper inspired tone couldnt help but get everyone moving. Vocals were lucid and strong, guitar and bass riffs were complex and the drums had a really catchy funk beat that blended it all together to make an accomplished and varied set. A great set by a great band." NWN on Battle Of The Bands Heat 4 2005.
"Conscience's blend of rock/funk stole the show. Praise ought to go to band members Steph Townsend, Alex Lewis (drums), George Millard (sax), Josh Poole (bass) and Matt Bullivant (guitar) for a phenomenal performance." NWN on Battle Of The Bands Heat 2 2007.
