Anybody who has an interest in wildlife conservation or conservation education in South Africa and Botswana are welcome. No previous knowledge is necessary, as the projects themselves allow a wide variety of information to be learnt whilst 'on the job'. There 9 placements available year round for you to take part in:
Shimongwe: Gives students the opportunity to assist a wildlife vet with treatment, game darting and other vet procedures.
Tuli Conservation Project: This program consists mainly of elephant and leopard monitoring in Botswana's remote and wild Tuli block.
Nholwasi Community Project: On this project students assist with teaching and other activities in rural village schools.
Hanchi Conservation Project: Is an eco-friendly way of monitoring game, carrying out fence patrols and other duties whilst on horseback!
Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Project: Students main duties consist of taking care of injured and orphaned animals such as servals, cheetah, bushbabies and hippo.
Game Capture Team: On this program students assist the Game Capture Team to relocate wildlife with the use of nets and helicopters.
Molemane Conservation Project: Students on this project carry out white rhino, buffalo and predator research on a protected game reserve.
Whale and Dolphin Research Centre: Students assist with whale and dolphin research with well known and respected scientists within the marine biology field.
You can also join the two-week Game Ranger Guide Course to learn more about the plant, animal and general management of the environment you are in.
