Both Republicans and conservatives are divided over issues affecting the United States. This is a monumental problem that needs to have some resolve. This leaves many people begging the question; How is this problem solved? Its simple, the Conservative Unity Wristband. The foundation for our mission derives from arguably one of the most influential and admired Presidents of the twentieth century, Ronald Wilson Regan, the 40th President of the United States Of America.
Ronald Reagan emerged from an acting career into politics in 1966 when he was elected the 33rd Governor of California. He served two terms as governor, but chose not to seek a third term. In the middle of his first term a governor, Ronald Reagan made a first of several attempts to gain the Republican presidential nomination.
The second attempt to receive the nomination came in 1976. Ronald Reagan lost the nomination at the Republican National Convention to incumbent President Gerald Ford by only a few votes. After meeting defeat, Ronald Reagan gave a rousing speech discussing the dangers of nuclear war and the moral threat of the Soviet Union. Ronald Reagan's speech moved many people, which made them feel as though they had voted for the wrong man.
Ronald Reagan's determination to win the nomination finally paid off in 1980. Reagan emerged as a serious candidate engaging in powerful debates with his opponent George H. W. Bush over economic issues. Ronald Reagan was an advocate of boosting the economy, and taking economic decisions away from the government. Also, Reagan advocated a limited government, and promised a balanced budget for the first time since 1969 when President Richard Nixon held office. Ronald Reagan lost the Iowa caucuses to George H. W. Bush, but won the New Hampshire primary, which caused the other candidates to drop out of the race. Reagan continued to win most of the other primaries and caucuses around the country. He won the nomination at the Republican National Convention and chose George H. W. Bush as his running mate for the election.
During the first term of his presidency, Ronald Reagan was ambitious to improve the economy. He worked hard with congress to lower inflation, cut taxes, increase employment, deregulation, and a strengthened national defense.
In the 1984 presidential election, Ronald Reagan had no challenger for the presidential nomination. He carried 49 of 50 states. The only state that President Reagan did not carry was the state of Minnesota and the District of Columbia.
The majority of Ronald Reagan's second term was directed towards foreign affairs. These affairs included the condemnation of Communism and the Cold War. President Reagan emphasized the doctrine "peace through strength" several times throughout his presidency. Reagan used "peace through strength" against the Soviet Union to diminish their access to technology, resources, to lower the value of their commodities, and to force the Soviets to allocate a majority of their economic resources to defense.
On June 12, 1987 Ronald Reagan delivered a stimulating speech at the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin, Germany calling upon Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. The constant pressure from the United States and our allies caused the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to crumble. The Berlin wall finally fell on November 11, 1989. A little over two years later on December 25, 1991 the Soviet Union collapsed.
Domestically, in 1986 Reagan overhauled the income tax code, which eliminated many deductions, and significantly reduced the income tax. Another momentous domestic affair was the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. This act provided compensation to victims of Japanese-American internment during World War II.
The end of President Ronald Reagan's administration was marked by the longest peacetime prosperity without recession or depression. President Reagan was definitely a tough act to follow.
