Sounds Like
"This white-hot trio uses Middle Eastern motifs as a launching pad for maniacal electric jams that suggest they've just come back from Iraq and can't wait to demonstrate what exhilaration amid chaos sounds like."
Howard Madel - NEW YORK PRESS
Toting the loaded description sci-fi Middle Eastern funk, New York City's CONSIDER THE SOURCE is excited to announce the release of their highly-anticipated 3rd album, "Are You Watching Closely," a follow up to 2007's celebrated release "Esperanto."
With Jazz Times' Howard Mandel calling them "the future of music," and sharing a stage with Wyclef Jean and Klezmer great Andy Statman, the band is ready to tour with new musical perspectives—futuristic in it's own respect. They blend heavy, sludgy rock with jazz-fusion, Middle Eastern sounds and calculated, complex time signatures. Guitarist Gabriel Marin, recently highlighted in Guitar Player Magazine, says, "Our music combines influences from Turkish, Bulgarian, North and South Indian styles with jazz and fusion, and then we filter it through our own heavy rock and psychedelic sounds and approaches.
The progressive trio, including Marin, drummer Justin Ahiyon and bassist John Ferrara, cite their influences as including The Bad Plus, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson and Tool—but a major source of their musical power can be attributed to a trip Marin and drummer Ahiyon took to India, where they studied music and have since brought their experiences back to the recording studio and to the stage.
What has developed over the years is a frenzied but controlled musical atmosphere, where improvisation is the highlight of their live shows—alongside their mathematical rhythm section. Marin's fretless, double-neck guitar pours all over the musical climate, while the bass' funk dances over the pounding drums. The blend draws everyone in.
"Are You Watching Closey" is set to expand on their already progressive palette. Here's what RELIX MAGAZINE had to say about their record release show in NYC: "Instrumental Sci-Fi prog-rockers Consider the Source combine Middle-Eastern twangs.. math-rock riff's....and an array of unworldly effects as they flawlessly groove their way through the intense jams, showcasing their diversity and pushing their instruments to the proverbial limit. Consider the Source demanded the attention of all in the room – which it received." RELIX MAGAZINE (2009)
The trio has been playing together for five years, though their development belies their age. Since its inception, the band has performed at countless festivals, college's, bars, clubs and various venues throughout North America. The band's influence continues to expand in 2009 with multiple national tours geared toward increasing a fan-base that has been growing astronomically, selling out venues on both coasts and many points in-between.

I am not my scars I know you see my pains reflection through the window of my eye Every let down, misconception, every hurt, and every lie. I try to cover up, yet my nakedness still shows, You see me, in my truest form, I am vulnerable and exposed. Sometimes the phantom of my past appears, though I try to forget Even when I hide it in the darkness, I still see its silhouette. So why do I regret…? These events are the fabric of who I’ve come to be Every instance like a fiber woven in my life’s tapestry. I can only look back for wisdom, I must let this be my strength But even I have yet to discover the true extent of its length. I have only gone so deep, on the surface it hurts so much When I feel my ugliness visible, I just want to cover up. But these memories, the pain from my past, and what I see… This is only an illusion, not the definition of me. I am not my downfalls, and I am not my mistakes, Yet when they look at me, this is all they seem to take. But look at ME, look into my soul… Look at who I really am, not the scars that clearly show. I have to remind myself who I am every day, Because everyone and everything tries to lead my mind astray. They want me to believe I am who they see me to be… They try to show me what I’ve overcome as if it’s still me. Will I live up to be the conceptions as they have made Or will I make my own path, let the past lie where it may See, I am not my scars, my scars are just the proof That I have healed from my afflictions, and I have made it through. -Fiyah Shoot ur email addy over to get on my mailing list! have a great day! =)
