About Conspiracy of Beards - Leonard Cohen Choir

San Francisco's Conspiracy of Beards is 30-man choir from that performs gritty, original arrangements of the songs of Leonard Cohen. This a capella group has had a string of acclaimed performances at Bay Area venues, including the Cafe du Nord, the Great American Music Hall, and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The choir has also been featured on National Public Radio's "West Coast Live," on KFOG-FM, and on PBS television station KQED-TV.

Transforming Cohen's simple melodies into complex 4- and 5-part harmonies, the group achieves a sound that is both robust and tender. One can hear influences of indie rock, jazz, gospel, barbershop, classical and even doo-wop in the unique arrangements the choir selects. Using the genius of Cohen's words, the Beards inspire their audience members to ponder romance, politics, sex, longing and spirituality, all amid laughter and cheers.

Hey, Beards.

We have small, intimate show on Saturday evening--early, so you can go hear Kelly Stoltz later at the Galaxy.

Come and hear your friend Scot do his thing with Bedtime Story.

Praise for Live Through This:

“A stunning book. I found myself dreaming
conversations with some of the writers—engaging in the
conversation they begin here.”

- Dorothy Allison, author of ‘Bastard Out of Carolina’

“This intimate book gives you all the tools for
self-emergence. Grabbing a pen, a crayon, a camera can
be the means to an artistic process that will help you
figure out who you are, and how you fit in."

- Janeane Garofalo, comedienne

"Finally! A compendium of articulate artists who
detail their personal struggles to rise above the
traumas so many young women are usually forced to face
alone. LIVE THROUGH THIS showcases a diverse
sisterhood of outsiders who have bravely chosen to
tackle their demons, confront their tormentors, and in
turn create art which is both extremely intimate, yet
desires to inspire others to find the undeniable power
of their own voice."

- Lydia Lunch, author of 'Paradoxia: A Predator's Diary'

Thanks for accepting the friendship. As Lou Reed said, we are so lucky to be alive the same time as Leonard Cohen.

You guys were great...I was in the front row "2 doors down from the Whitney" yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't get to other performances but am thrilled I saw you there. Should I ever find myself able to fund a visit to my beloved California, I will expect an encore.

Warm regards to all the beards...
