Contempt for the masses was conceived at the end of 2004 as a strong reaction against perceived mass apathy and a need to create passionate and challenging music by sole member, Simon Davis.
As the project name suggests, the Contempt for masses EP is based around themes and issues which confront us in our everyday lives, however the issues are explored from the point of the view of the adversary. The adversary is the one who will not submit and stands in defiance to the whims of the powers that be, and by association, the masses.
Sonically, Contempt for the masses is a dizzying mix of bands and artists as varied as Emperor, Lightning Bolt, Baroness, Pink Floyd and Aphex Twin. This fusion of disparate styles (Norwegian Black Metal, Skronk, Electronica, etc.) come together on the recording to create music which whilst being extreme and complex in places, is also delicate and restrained whilst remaining articulate and focused throughout.
With a clear and focused vision of how the project would sound, its message and its aesthetic, sole member Simon Davis decided to carry out all writing, performance and engineering duties entirely alone. After just over a year of writing and recording in this unaided manner, an articulate and powerful new voice in extreme music has been born.
