The idea for Contrast The Water started brewing in the vocalist Barry's mind about two years ago. He finally sold that idea to Grant, a friend and colleague of his, and the planning began.
The concept involved making extreme metal which was socially conscious and contained a message about the serious decline of morality in our country, and of the troubling phenomenon which sees people in South Africa beginning to accept violence and degradation as part of their lives.
They initially practiced up to six times a week; sometimes for 13 to 14 hours per day. Within five weeks of being together, Contrast the Water had six songs down, and three songs recorded for an EP - with another three or four numbers already sitting on the burner.
They still keep to a strict rehearsal schedule and no time is wasted.
The end of 2006 saw a line-up change for the band. Raymond Heesen took over drumming duties from Anthony Do Souto. He has found his place within the band and has added a lot of diversity to Contrast the Water's music.
In October of 2007 saw the band opening up for German power metal heavyweights, Blind Guardian, which was an awesome show and a great experience. By Feb of 2008 saw the sad departure of bassist, friend Grant due to work commitments, He will be sadly missed! But things didn't stop for the band there, with chris taking it upon himself to forefull the duties of bass playing and with the introduction of a new young talented guitarist who hails by the name Aaron Saunders or as we affectionately call him "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaron"
