The Discounts deliver a live show with passion and intensity rarely witnessed outside of the bedroom. The band brings you bangin' reggae and funk beats with quirky dancehall and hip-hop vocals to get the party started. Before you know it you'll be grooving to the good vibes and moving on over to the dance floor.
Since 2008's poorly promoted offering of The Discounts – Part One, band leader Conway Pacheco has been on the road rocking crowds and writing new rhymes. Presently he's back in Beijing partying with the “Chinese Discounts”. Stay tuned for new plans to travel India, Europe and eventually return to North America to record and take things more seriously.
"Instrumentally, the group are excellent and thus Part One plays out as an extended invitation that calls to fans to check the group out in a live setting, which is where they could really show their mettle." Exclaim!, 2009
“fiercely talented”
-Kerri Breen, The Scope, 2008
“some serious summer dance parties”
-Justin Brake, The Telegram, 2008
“The cramped, narrow bar is churning with bodies dancing, stamping and, I think, even pirouetting. Or maybe it’s merely the earth tilting an extra beat to the funk-reggae party sounds of The Discounts.”
-Christopher Frey, Up! Magazine, 2008
“Live, the band combines a great deal of positive energy with extremely solid and creative musicianship that will make you dance and intelligent lyrics to make you think.”
-Devon Strang, House of Rock, (drummer for Tom Fun and Slowcoaster), 2002
“a real knife edge of sheer experimental exuberance.”
-Mark Vaughan-Jackson, The Telegram, 2001
“The Discounts are the only Newfoundland Band to have a gig commissioned by a member of the USS Enterprise...they well represent how to get all the girls up dancing.”
-Chuck Art, Current, 2001
Yeh, Otherside was a song that had to be written. I wrote it when I was told by my best friend in Aus, that his brother was killed in a motorcycle accident on New Years Eve 2007.
thanks for the add, i'm really liking your sound, its not often we hear hip hop bands on such a similar tip as us, or hip hop bands period. How did you hear of us?
