Cookie Cutter were legends, legends that very few people ever got or heard or cared about. But in their own tiny little way, they changed the Manchester music scene.
The band formed in about March 2007 and originally just played Kyle's songs because Andrew was too shy to sing. For awhile, Maria and Ted from The Fountain played with us but it all got a bit professional sounding, so we sent them back to their main band with an A+ for effort and a small amount of guilt. They still talk to us though.
Andrew was the lead guitarist in the early Cookie Cutter and then there was an experimental phase where he spent a lot of time hitting biscuit tins and blowing down a penny whislte. Then he got a lot braver and pretty much turned into the lead singer.
We used to run the splendid and chaotic Jamboree at the Ladybarn, Fallowfield and then at Saki bar, Rusholme. We had some great bands on and we had big plans. Jamboree. Cookie Cutter were a bit scared of some bands around town, so if we didn't ask you to play Jamboree its because we were afraid of you.
Drop us a message at this Myspace if you want to own some of our stuff. We love you.
Cookie Cutter split up in November 2008, after playing a shambolic last show with Major Matt Mason a few weeks earlier. Kyle still plays music in his new band, Winter Berries. Andrew is recording music under the name 'Freedom Screech' and may be doing a new band with Kyle and John soon. Andrew has a pile of Cookie Cutterr tapes in his room that may never be heard and is working on a documentary about the band.
Jamboree continues on and is running at the Retro Bar right now, mainly.

A Review of our first EP :: Cookie Cutterr :: 10 March 2008 / Demo / 5 Trk CDR
In another world, the songs on here could be presented in quite a reasonable fashion. As it stands this is a rough bedroom demo, that's not really not taking anything that seriously. From the opening strained singing of "hey Yeah!", to the shambling strums of acoustic guitar; whether this is ever meant to have been a proper attempt at making music is anyone's guess. "World Full Of Ghosts" is completely lacking in spirit and "New Friend" is the kind of song you would play to someone you really hate. You get the suspicion that this is an exaggerated attempt at being ironic. One hopes it not just a couple of misguided sorts trying (and failing) to be cool. If you actually do have a copy of this, well I admire you for your perseverance. So be it.

Tomorrow night sees Major Matt USA play his debut headline show in Manchester as part of a wider European tour. Since 1994 MMM has achieved seemingly legendary status in New York's Antifolk and DIY scenes through the popularity of both his solo project and other band Schwervon. As well as his work producing, engineering and distributing records for folks like Jeff Lewis, Moldy Peaches and Creaky Boards. With AF tinged support from Petals on a Wet Black Bough, Jam on bread and Cookie Cutterr
