What is "post-jazz"? Smart Ass Answer: It’s what happens after jazz (but before the cheese course). Real Short Answer: It’s jazz-influenced, improvisational instrumental music. Alternate Short Answer: It’s jazz music played by rock musicians. Longer and More Pretentious Answer: Post-jazz is post-modern jazz. Using elements taken jazz-influenced music from the 20th century (jazz, blues, funk, rock), post-jazz seeks to build on, re-interpret, and enjoy what has tickled our ears over our collective lifetime.
The Cool Blood Trio plays post-jazz music for the masses. Slip them under your musical covers.
You're welcome! thanks for being my friend. I sincerely love your music -- just listened to it. I'll have to check you guys out sometime for sure :) Take care and keep up the good work!
How many bands have editorial punctuation on them? Not many. There is a reason why.
Imagine this conversation:
Jim: Hey, Carol. How are you today? Carol: I'm doing great, Jim. How are you? Jim: Just dandy. Thanks for asking. Hey, where were you last night? I tried calling you and got your voice mail again. Carol: I was at a Cool Blood "Trio" show (makes little air quote symbols with fingers). Jim: Oh, how ironic considering that they have 4 dudes in the band. They're really think they are being ironic, don't they? Carol: Irony is, like, sooooo over, but their bass player is fucking sexy. Jim: He carries that band.
I think by leaving well enough alone, we could achieve something more like this:
Jim: Hey, Carol. How are you today? Carol: I'm doing great, Jim. How are you? Jim: Just dandy. Thanks for asking. Hey, where where you last night? I tried calling you and got your voice mail again. Carol: I was at a Cool Blood Trio show. Jim: I heard they rock. Carol: Yeah. They do. I am going to every show they have and feel cool because I know something about them that other people who didn't go to the show don't know. Jim: Wow. I love that kind of thing. What's the big secret? Carol: Well, I don't think it's any secret that the bass player is the definition of HOTNESS, but did you know that they're not actually a trio at all? They're a quartet! Jim: (chuckles heartily) That's kinda funny. That's like how Ben Fold's Five only has three people, but, like, backwards. I'll bet you're more likely to remember them and not mock them for it. Carol: I also feel like I am in on a great in-joke. Those guys are like my best friends now! I plan on spending my entire paycheck on their CD's, shows, and other related merchandise so that others will know how cool I am and how uncool they are for not knowing what I know. Jim: I am such a loser for not bein
Crazy crazy crazy. I don't think I've seen you in over 20 years. Hows your brother? What a trip - glad to see you play music. I'm addicted - a true road warrior and I love it. Glad ya found me. Keep in touch, we come to Austin a couple times a year. Take care Justin!
