Cooper Thomson comes from a school of writing that exists half a block up from Springsteen, just down around the corner from Waits, with Lennon on one shoulder and McCartney on the other.
The music of Cooper Thomson has been described as, “...classic-quality tunes” with “wry and intelligent lyrics” that “echo poetry of old, filled with romantic and dark imagery.” As a performer, he has been called “a must-see songwriter extraordinaire…”
Thomson's songs consistently showcase thought-provoking lyrical content, unforgettably catchy melodies, and an indomitably independent spirit. As a journalist once noted, “Cooper Thomson writes the songs that make the whole world think.”
His work has been featured in numerous prime-time network television programs, including Boston Legal, What About Brian, and Men In Trees. He also counts two self-released albums under his belt, as well as a publishing deal with Los Angeles-based North Star Media.
Now living in Los Angeles, Cooper has most recently completed demos for an upcoming LP. They hint of Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Otis Redding, Pavement, and the Beatles, running the emotional gamut from wistful to jubilant and back again. Look for the new album to be completed in 2009. Until then, expect a few demo versions of the new songs to make their way to www.myspace.com/cooperthomson for everyone to hear.
On Oct 3, a fantastic gathering occurred within a cafe-sized room canopied by trees. The Gypsy Camp is a long-visited place within El Escorpion Park in West Hills - long overdue to be utilized as a unique venue for live music.
It was the beginning of a new series of acoustic shows that bring bands out of bars and clubs, friends and musical enthusiasts out of the house on a saturday afternoon, and a unique and magical experience to everyone involved.
If this looks like a good time to you, please tell people about it, and join us for Gypsy Camp The Second on Saturday, Nov. 14. Prepare yourself with a cooler and blanket and an afternoon to enjoy some great music.
