Much like television, the Copa evolved from black and white to full color. A revamp in early 2004 brought new life and new faces--mainly younger, urban professional types--to this neighborhood bar, effectively quadrupling their weekend crowds. Flat-screen televisions and color-changing mood-lights hanging over the bar's booths now accompany an updated sound system that plays DJ-spun hip-hop and rock on weekends, and house music on Sunday nights.
"CitySearch" Editorial Review for The Copa – by Allison Knab
In Short
Red and gold vintage wallpaper and a zebra-striped wooden bar create a retro vibe at this neighborhood lounge. Early comers can choose from three booths dwarfed by enormous dome lights or a few tables in the front and back of the bar. DJs spin mostly hip-hop and rock on weekends for an upbeat crowd. Six taps and a full bar provide libations for locals looking for a place to call home.
TIME OUT Chicago Magazine
· Wood paneling behind the bar, intricate tile work behind the leather wrap-around booths...this lounge has retro style to burn, we just don't know what era they're in. This is a martini type of place, and they make a mean one, but it's the Budweiser in nifty vintage cans that get our money.
www.10best.com review
This club's interior sports bright colors and chrome, chrome, and more chrome. The futuristic-type feel is offset by mirrors, circular leather booths, and small candles glowing on the tables. The house hosts some talented DJ's that spin everything from funk and soul to rap and hip-hop. A full bar serves cocktails and a lengthy list of beers. Two televisions located near the bar keep patrons up on news and game stats.
NEW CITY
The Copa Lounge melds retro and contemporary styles with a zebrawood bar, stainless steel accents, bold vintage wallpaper, beveled mirrored walls and multi-colored wall tiles. The tin ceiling is original to the building. DJ's spin nightly and the tempo is picked up for the weekends. The lounge is only 1 room, so the people watching and the socializing can become quite festive. The crowd is made up of young professionals and locals who want to sip on a martini, drink a cold beer or join in the fun on Karaoke Wednesdays, a very popular midweek event. Find out why The Copa Lounge has been used for photo shoots, music videos and film locations... it's a unique and intimate cocktail lounge.
