"Cori Crooks, artist and writer first made heads turn with her art/life blog, "A Gag Reflex", where she documented her quest for a DNA test and aired the results to the public. (Along with some photos of her mother posing in white cotton panties, circa 1950.) Her gutsy writing style and offbeat storytelling has since landed her a cult following and literary representation with Wendy Sherman Associates Inc., NYC. Look out for more from this new generation author."

Promoting my new book, "Sweet Charlotte's Seventh Mistake", released December 15th by Seal Press. Order it here on Amazon.com.

..
Sweet Charlotte’s Seventh Mistake, is a collection of essays, poetry, vintage images, art, and documents that tell of the complex relationship Crooks had with her dead, drug addict, con-artist mother. Throughout the memoir, Crooks comes to terms with her past as an abandoned child, and explains the losses of her 6 older siblings while discovering the true identity of her own biological father. All of these haunting elements combine to tell a multi-layered story about identity, grief, and the consequences of truth. "
“Sweet Charlotte’s Seventh Mistake is a visual feast of all the same documents and photos that lived on Crooks’ astonishing blog, A Gag Reflex. It is funny and heartbreaking, and it makes for an absorbing and compelling read.”
~ Cheryl Holliday, Emmy winning writer/producer of King of the Hill
“This is compassionate voyeurism at its best. As Crooks unflinchingly exposes every one of her dark secrets for all to share, she searches not only for who her family is, but who she is as well. A truly inspiring and fresh approach to a tough coming of age story and a must read for anyone, regardless of age.”
~Patrick O’Neil, Full Blue Moon Dementia

"Yesterday a strange thing happened. I drove around town with a turd in my trunk. Not some stranger’s oily turd though, but my own sweet baby turd. I say ‘baby’ because when I saved it from drowning in my sister’s overflowing toilet, I cradled the slimy little thing in my bare palm for a good 30 seconds, realizing that it appeared to have a little face. Maybe it was just the soft lighting in my sister’s bathroom that created that illusion. But the way the shadows fell upon her there in my hand, I swore I saw what looked like two little eyes, a dent of a nose, and a crooked crease for a mouth. A sweet face that seemed to be smiling up at me."

I just started reading it, but that's one of my favorite lines from when I read your blog that it's based on. I already know I'm gonna like the book. The layout is great, and flows very well.
Now I'm gonna kick you to get working on "Cherryland". The title alone inspires thoughts of a mystical place, and I think people would enjoy reading it as well.
