i love to read sci-fi/fantasy type novels- grittier, bloodier ones like katherine kerr and orson scott card, also jacqueline carey, garth nix, terry brooks, piers anthony, anne rice, mercedes lackey... anything magical or unrealistic, paranormal or otherworldly, with lots of gore or strife- the Harry Potter series kicks ass, it is chock full of strife these last few books!
