Upbeat “dinner party” feel showcases burlesque dancers and unique musical performances
Bringing the excitement back into dining, Corio Restaurant is bringing together small plate dining with a unique and energetic atmosphere that includes rotating musical acts and stimulating burlesque dancers.
Music
Corio offers a diverse selection of Mediterranean fare for lunch and dinner in the main dining room, while the upstairs offers smaller tapas-like sharing plates, where burlesque dancers perform for brief 5 minute sets throughout the evening.
Movies
The upstairs of Corio includes an 8-inch elevated riser that serves as a “stage” to showcase dancers performing traditional style burlesque as well as modern takes, set to present day mixes of music, under seductive glowing red spotlights.
Television
The alluring space is adorned with antique cherubic wallpaper from the 1960’s, plush couches and all-natural purple hued wood flooring that comes from the precious 120-150 foot “purple-heart” trees.
The drag king Murray Hill, who has an acid tongue and a plumber's build, hosts "This Is Burlesque," a sardonic revue of neo-burlesque, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in the velvety upstairs room of this boudoir-like Mediteranean restaurant and club. The performers-all first-rate- include Angie Pontani and the World Famous Pontani Sisters, who are neither world-famour nor sister. Nevertheless, they're the perfect centerpiece for this raucous evening of high kicking and tassel twirling.

Burlesque is booming in New York, and Angie Pontani is its reigning star. you know a trend has reached critical mass when it finds its way into a plotline on Gossip Girl. The teen grama recently featured a fictional burlesque club and a performance by 30-year-old real-life dancer Angie Pontani.
In terms of audience, there's some overlap between New York City's legit theatre and nightclub scenes but not much. With the possible exception, that is, of Gotham's flourishing burlesque scene, which ties together everything from stage work and performance art to specialty acts, comedy, music, and dance.

The Strokes, who strolled into the This Is Burlesque show at cheeky and cheerful Corio eatery on a Friday eve. The Strokers slid into a table by the stage (to get a better look at the ladies, fer sure) and interacted with the emcee throughout the campy show. The five indie fellas sported jeans and rocker tees, natch, foregoing anything harder than vodka 'n' Red Bulls. Funny, you'd think their energy drink du jour would be Rock Star, huh? The band enjoyed the saucy entertainment—who wouldn’t?—and stayed well after the show was over to chill with the cast. Bet none of the performers in this sexy dinner theater were a match for drummer Fabrizio Moretti’s ex Drew Barrymore, but a guy’s gotta eat, no?
