The 23rd of August 2005 ..Glenn Corneille.. died in a tragic car accident. He was only 35 years old. Left a wive and two boys behind. We'll always remember him as one of the finest piano players; he was more than a nice guy too!.... ..The Corneille/Roelofs Trio.. performed for ten years. Saturday the 6th of August 2005 they played their last concert at the 26th Gouvy Jazz & Blues Festival at the Ferme Madelonne in Sterpigny (near Gouvy in the south of Belgium). ....Here on myspace you can listen to some songs and two introductions of the Corneille/Roelofs Trio by Glenn. Some samples of their last concert... .... This concert in Gouvy was released (IN THE SUMMER OF 2008) on cd+dvd (it's an own production) and accompanied by a publication that covers the 10 years of making music together. Truly a collectors item. It's SOLD OUT. ....Together with his friend, drummer ..Geert Roelofs.. and ..Werner Lauscher.. on double bass, Glenn Corneille and Geert Roelofs formed - since 1995 - the Corneille/Roelofs Trio. They officially released only two cd's: 'Finally' (2001, Munich Records, BMCD328) and 'And That's Why' (2003, Munich Records, BMCD412). .... .... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .... Zaterdagavond 6 augustus 2005 speelde het ..Corneille/Roelofs Trio.. het allerlaatste concert. Dat was in de vermaarde jazzclub in Ferme Madelonne van Claude Lentz, om precies te zijn: op het 26e ..Gouvy Jazz & Blues Festival.. in het Belgische gehucht Sterpigny. ....Tien jaar bestond het Corneille/Roelofs Trio. Deze Limburgse jazzformatie timmerde sinds '95 aan de weg. Enkele weken na dit legendarisch concert - op dinsdagavond 23 augustus 2005 - kwam ..Glenn Corneille.. bij een tragisch verkeersongeval om het leven, op de A1 bij het Noord-Hollandse Laren. Glenn werd slechts 35 jaar en liet een vrouw en twee zonen na. .... Contrabassist ..Werner Lauscher.., pianist ..Glenn Corneille.. en drummer ..Geert Roelofs.. waren sinds hun conservatoriumtijd in Maastricht onafscheidelijk. In die jaren organiseerde Geert samen met Glenn wekelijkse sessies op maandagavond in het Maastrichtse café ..Marks & Kampstra... Ruud Breuls, Benjamin Herman, Ben van den Dungen, Anton Goudsmit, Toon Roos en Eric Vloeimans, het zijn slechts enkele namen die met hen samenspeelden. Glenn Corneille was de eerste die ..summa cum laude.. afstudeerde als docerend musicus piano aan de afdeling Lichte Muziek van het ..Conservatorium Maastricht... Twee jaar later eveneens als eerste ..cum laude.. als uitvoerend musicus. ......Cees Schrama.. werd door ..Meta de Vries.. op het trio getipt. Zij had hen in Maastricht zien spelen. Jazznestor Schrama sloot hen meteen in zijn hart. Het Corneille/Roelofs Trio speelde diverse keren in zijn legendarische radioprogramma ..Tros Sesjun... In 2000 stond het Corneille/Roelofs Trio voor het eerst op het ..North Sea Jazz Festival... Glenn Corneille werd dat jaar ..‘Best New Talent’.. tijdens de Dutch Jazz Competition. .... Cd's maken, had geen hoge prioriteit. Zij brachten twee cds in eigen beheer uit. ..'Live in De Maaspoort'.. (’98) en ..'Tarantino'.. (’99). Materiaal van deze laatste cd verscheen eveneens op een Amerikaans platenlabel en belandde in ’99 zelfs in de Amerikaanse jazz charts. Het Corneille/Roelofs Trio was daarmee de eerste Nederlandse jazzformatie die daarin opdook. .... De eerste echte officiële cd kwam er pas na zes (!) jaar. Deze ‘debuut-cd’ - toepasselijk ;-) genaamd ..'Finally'.. (2001, Munich Records) - presenteerden zij in de Heerlense jazzclub ..Carnaval Du Jazz..en kreeg prima kritieken. Muzikale gasten op deze cd zijn contrabassist ..Hein van de Geyn.. en trompettist ..Eric Vloeimans... Dat jaar speelde het Corneille/Roelofs Trio overigens weer op het North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Haag... Hun tweede - officiële Cd - verscheen twee jaar later (in 2003) en is getiteld ..'And That's Why'... Deze kwam eveneens uit bij Munich Records. ......Cees Schrama.. schreef de liner note:.... Upon listening to this new album by the trio one tends to believe that this is a major release! .. Upon relistening one discovers more and more reasons to see why. The sheer pleasure of discovering new attitudes, harmonic and rhythmic cross-breedings makes you wonder where will this all end. .. By now it is no secret that Glenn is a terrific pianoplayer, and Geert a modest inventive drummer. Werner Lauscher, the able-bodied bassist more than completes the trio in their zest to make new music. ..And new music it is. Listen to their beautiful rendition of Jeff Buckleys Grace, the (ear)opener of the album. Savour the seemingly endless flowing lines and the true togetherness of the threesome. .. A real gem is the haunting And Thats Why, a mere one minute of romantic suspense, the bass doubles Glenns left hand as they descend in unison. There must be more to this rightful title of the complete album? Astor Piazollas Oblivion becomes an even greater composition in the hands of these three talented improvisers. .. There is so much more to say about their tasteful execution of the repertoire. Every beautiful detail (including the exceptional compositional skills) could be commented upon endlessly. .. But no, music is in the ear of the beholder, so turn it on, turn it on. And agree with me, this IS a major album. .... Ook in 2003 speelde het Corneille/Roelofs Trio op het North Sea Jazz Festival..... Het bleef bij die twee - officiële - cd's. De laatste - in eigen beheer uitgebrachte cd (de derde dus) verslaat het ..Gouvy concert... Ook beeldmateriaal (een dvd dus) getuigt daarvan. Helaas is deze productie niet meer voorradig..... ........Gouvy 2007, Glenn still watches over the stage in jazz club Ferme Madelonne........... ....Cd + dvd ‘Live @ Gouvy’, het laatste concert......... Het Corneille/Roelofs Trio bracht de opnames van hun laatste optreden op ..cd.. uit in eigen beheer; enkel voor vrienden en bekenden. Dat er überhaupt opnames gemaakt zijn, was voor hen een verrassing. ....De BRF maakte bovendien van enkele nummers beeldopnames die op deze Duitstalige Belgische televisiezender zijn uitgezonden. Volgens kenners was dit laatste optreden één van hun beste live optredens. Tevens is bij deze productie een ..boekwerkje.. uitgegeven met een overzicht van hun activiteiten in de 10 jaar van hun bestaan. Persoonlijke herinneringen van Geert Roelofs en Werner Lauscher vormen daarbij de leidraad... Zoals gezegd, helaas SOLD OUT..... .. ..MPS MySpace Editor 2.0........
