My name is Cornelia Seigneur, (maiden name:Becker) aka Nellie aka WriterMom. . .and I count it an amazing gift from God to have the opportunity to communicate via the pen, to write down thoughts of the heart and stories and ideas and prayers and musings. . . about life and culture and family and people's stories and faith. . . . In my Real-Life Mom column, published since 2005 in The Oregonian daily newspaper's SW Weekly section (also found at their website: www.oregonlive.com), all these areas of my life intersect -- I muse on culture and parenting and family and carpools and real life with kids and how motherhood is the most rewarding, wonderful, frustrating, heart-breaking, beautiful, life-long journey we will take. . . From 1999-2005 I wrote my WriterMom family column (a.k.a. On the Home Front) for the West Linn Tidings weekly newspaper. . . Besides my column, I have been a freelance journalist for The Oregonian since 1996, where I have written about authors, pastors, musicians, artists, missionaries, newscasters, teachers, actors, kids doing good. . . .In addition to my newspaper work, I have written for Travel Oregon and Parents magazine, among other publications.

. . .In addition to writing, I savor inspiring others in their journey of the pen -- Currently, I am teaching a Communications Studies course at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon (The course is Intro to Public Relations), which I love. In the past, I have taught journalism, memoir and creative non-fiction through
Portland State University's Center for Excellence in Writing and lead other workshops and classes in schools, churches (currently a homeschool class at Rolling Hills Community Church) and through other venues. I have also taught German language, another passion of mine.
My background: Born in Germany, (Bad Homburg, vdH), raised in America - Indiana, San Fran, Corvallis Oregon, and finally Portland Oregon, graduating from Cleveland High School. Attended the University of Portland where I met my husband Christopher while we were student leaders with Campus Crusade for Christ. I graduated with a degree in English literature and earned my high school teaching certificate a year later. In 1996, I finished my Master's Degree in German from Portland State Univ. so I could teach German. I love German, my first language really. . . .My husband and I have have been married now for 20 years and have five beautiful wonderful amazing children between the ages of 4 and 17 that I adore! . . . .
We attend Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin, Oregon, where I volunteer with High School Ministry, leading a girls Bible study for Bridge, greeting kids on Sunday mornings, and chaperoning mission trips and youth group camps. I am also part of a community service leadership team where my call is to write the stories of those who are reaching out to be the hands and feet of Christ in a world filled with lonely hurting people. I also try to go on at least one mission trip a year away from Portland– Torreon Mexico 2006, Mississippi 2007. Next year? Africa? with my daughter Rachel I hope and pray. . . . . .
.. . . .In the rest of my free time (ha ha), I like to travel, power walk, hike, read German poetry and memoirs, spend time in the great outdoors, help others, watch movies, go on adventures, travel, camp, bike ride, go out to eat, go on adventures, cook and bake from scratch for others.
