Teenage songs of glee, laughter, delusory addlement, and melancholy.
Cornish in a Turtleneck began in 1997 in Ypsilanti, Michigan when Tim Schreiber bought his first 4-track machine shortly after his 16th birthday. He enlisted his high school buddy Eric Oakes to help him home record several basement masterpieces.
The first year or so of the band bore the fruits of several home-copied cassettes beginning with Cornish in a Turtleneck ( Sept. 1997) and Tape 2 (Feb. 1998). Shortly thereafter Juan Garcia was enlisted into the band and they played their first live performance in April 1998 at Vinyl Joes Coffee in Ypsilanti. Later that spring the Measels EP cassette was released (May 1998) followed by a full length cassette called Budapest Zoo (Dec. 1998). During this period Cornish in a Turtleneck played many live performances in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. Also during this period, "A Collection of 10 Songs about Booties" was recorded by Tim and passed around. This tape later became known to many by way of FOUND MAGAZINE as a creation by The Ypsilanti All-Stars.
In March 1999 their first home copied CD was released entitled "It's Broasted" in which the first half was devoted to compiling a "greatest hits" from the 4 main tapes (minus the Booty collection) and the second half to a new batch of 4-track recordings. In August 1999 Tim moved to Kalazamazoo, MI for college and live shows became more sporatic. However, in April 2000 he moved back to Ypsilanti and in the same month the CD "Another Mediterranean Taste Adventure" was home released. The band played it's last show in December 2000 at the Elbow Room in Ypsilanti, after which the progressive-psych-concept-album entitled "A Manifestation of Delicate Things That Go Beep?" was home released on CD in Spring 2001.
In August 2001 Tim moved to Athens, GA after which he formed the Bubblegum-dance-pop band Sugar Shakers in 2002 with Madeline Adams and later a rock n' roll band called Col. Knowledge & the Lickity-Splits in the summer of 2003 (In late 2006 they shortened the name to the Lickity-Splits). These days Tim performs solo under the alias Timmy Tumble and records his new material with his tape machines. Juan Garcia lives in Grand Rapids and has been involved in several musical projects since. Eric Oakes lives in Ypsilanti with his wife and 2 children.
