BattleoftheBadgesBasketball	May 19 2008 1:36 AM Battle of the Badges II Law Enforcement Basketball Tournament 2008 **Charlotte Shootout** Oct.10-12@West Mecklenburg High School: Charlotte,NC More Info to follow: THE BATTLE OF THE BADGES II HISTORY The Battle of the Badges Law Enforcement Basketball Tournament was first organized in November 2000 in the honor of the Maryland State Trooper Corporal Edward M. Toatley, who was killed in the line of duty. The tournament was organized to raise money for Scholarship Fund and to bring Law Enforcement Officers from all aspects of law enforcement i.e. police, corrections, sheriffs, probation and parole, firefighters and EMS together to camaraderie and network within the community of law enforcement. In the last 7 years, the Battle of the Badges has raised over 8,000.00 in scholarship money for students from Dundalk High School and the community of Turner Station, Maryland. The Battle of the Badges II was started in November 2006 to bring law enforcement basketball to North Carolina. The Garner Rd YMCA of Raleigh, NC was where the first two tournaments were played at. The Garner Rd YMCA is one of 7 African American private own YMCA in the USA. In 2007, the tournament was played in honor of Correctional Officer Drew Miller of North Carolina Dept of Corrections- Central Prison. The Battle of the Badges is more than just playing basketball; it?s providing scholarships for worth students to continue their education along with bring professional men and women together from around the USA in the community of law enforcement to play a sport they love. Tournament Champions have been: 2006- Montgomery County Corrections, MD 2007- Wake County Sheriff Office, NC (NC Enforcers)
