I don't know whether Cortez fits into the postrock category; imagine Chris Isaak taking the mic right after he's chugged a couple of bottles of cough syrup; with a little imagination, you can see this CD as a musical portrait of the gothic backwoods mischief a bunch of "archetypical cajuns" who spend many long nights drinking everclear and listening to albums by the American Music Club.
Gothic content not withstanding, what makes the whole shockabilly approach work is that our skewed singer is relating tales that come from the hard living of real life.
Departures from the default sound include "sea of sound", an upbeat powerpop number with lyrical hooks that could have come straight off a 1980's SUB-POP record.

YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELF
CORTEZ DEL MAR: You Did This To Yourself
From South Louisiana, Cortez Del Mar blends classic Americana and indie-rock; often described as "country noir," they're guarenteed to break your wicked little heart.

I would have to say my favorite show was the one in Lafayette at Cafe Cottage where the dude in the cowboy hat was flippin out. Unfortunately the drinkin makes the rest of the shows a haze.
I think my favorite shows were the one at Chelses in Baton Rouge in 2004 Reninesance 2004(bad spelling) in Lafayette. Both those show i was kind-of a roadie and got to hear a lot of music created out of fun, fear, fights, hatred, love, life, everything friends go threw, or whatever crazy but cool stuff those guys came out with. During the hurricanes, the music, and the shows, kept us sane and filled us with a pondering calmness and humor about being "refugees". Two of my bithdays were on show dates, that band, made it the greatest time of my life(at the time).I could ramble on and on about the memories, the music, the genius, and friendship that Cortez Del Mar and i, all of us have shared but no all i have left to say is Good Luck guys remember the good times old and new, remember your roots, and Always keep hold of the things that "originally" brought you together so that the bond and evolution together with music isnt broken or paused. LOVE YOU GUYS!
