You wanna know why soccer is the worlds greatest sport? 'Cause all you need is a ball an open space. You don't have to be big, or strong. Its the most democratic of all sports.
Corvallis is a humble city of about 50,000 but we have a long history of soccer in the Northwest. Both Corvallis high schools, CHS and CV have won state championships (against the big Portland schools). Local youth club teams have won the OYSA State Cup several times. Corvallis is home to the Oregon State Beavers men's and women's soccer teams. The Willamette Valley Firebirds called Corvallis home before they moved to Portalnd and became the Portland Timbers. The Corvallis Sports Park is the nicest indoor soccer facility in Oregon (its true). The Parks and Rec league predates history and you can find a pick up game nearly every day week. Corvallis loves soccer.
Who I'd like to meet: People that love soccer, Corvallis and especially both.
We're playing Columbia Red Branch (from Portland) on Saturday, August 1st @ 11 AM, over at Willamette Park (north soccer field) - it'd be great to have your support!
Corvallis, Oregon will be the site of the first ever head-to-head friendly match between the established Columbia Red Branch warriors and the combined forces of two young mid-Willamette Valley upstart hurling clubs, the Benton Brigade and the Upper Willamette Valley Hurling Club. The fun starts at 1 PM at Avery Park (subject to change). Come on down and engage in some friendly hurling competition, then indulge yourself in a pint or two at Block15 Brewery, Benton Brigade's official sponsor. The first round is on the house (including root beer) - sláinte!
