About me:

Welcome to the official myspace page of Baba Olutunde aka "The Griot." Baba Olutunde has dedicated the past 23 years of his life creating functional Art and the preservation of his African ancestry by being a repository of oral tradition. His profession is hereditary, and has long been part of a family tradition. As a master of using insights from Igbo, Yoruba and African-American cultures he has long kept his own history, in his own languages, orally, in the form of epics. Baba Olutunde is a voice with a calling, a spirit with a purpose, and a true renaissance man who has won the 2009 New African Award for his latest collection of Oral poetry, Fables and Folktales compacted into a 178 page book entitled "The Son Of A Warrior Griot," volume one. As a genealogist, messenger, poet, storyteller, song writer, composer, playwright, historian, educator, Author, visual artist, flutist, flute maker, publisher, and civil rights activist, he continues to travel the world, spreading his personal truths and legendary wisdom within the rhythms of his words, his vision, his mission and in the rawness of his realities is where Baba Olutunde's unique powers lies to help audience members to transcend their own experiences, time and culture for universal truths which are life enriching. Baba has self published four full books of poetry: The Composition Of A Griot (2007): The Son Of A Warrior Griot: A Collection Of Oral Poetry, Fables & Folktales (2008); Loving You; A Collection Of Love Poems & Lyrics and The Streets Speak Of Blood; A Collection Of Nergitude Poems (2009). He is also currently composing a 15 track cd of works from his Loving You book and revising his one man play entitled The Streets Speak Of Blood.

    Hi Tunde,
I apologize for taking so long to reply to your message. Me and Janice are fine. She was born August 22. She is beautiful and growing like a weed. It's been so hectic for me. I'm still getting used to being totally responsible for another human being. Motherhood is exciting and overwhelming. All in all a blessing. How is your family? By the way, I finally finished the book. Needless to say, I loved it. Well I hope to chat to you soon.
    God Bless

ini are made in the image of Jah and according to His likeness. in the beginning Jah said let there be and it was. Jah called forth everything out of nothing. sometimes ini have to speak life into i own situations. ini have to call those things as though they already are. look at a ship: although they are large and driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. like a ship ini can turn i lives wherever ini desire with a very small rudder our tongue.

And so started the journey that touched so many lives…..

    MICHAEL JACKSON
A musical prodigy, a truly splendid man
To some he was a plain mirror
To others hard to over stand.

Whatever may be your view of him
    This one thing is true…
He reached out and touched so many
In a way no one else dare to do.

So today I implore you to celebrate his legacy.
    REFLECT
A life that apex to it’s optimum ability.
We watched him grow, we watched him live
We saw the lives he saved.
Now let us watch him go in peace
A place that awaits us all…the grave.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE
    One blessed and righteous love…..
Walk with Jah and stay blessed

Here are the final details (:

    Poetstock!

Never before has this been done, and hopefully it will be successfully repeated after this all over the world, again and again….

Our aim is to bring together poets from all over, who produce all genres of poetry for a night of mingling, poetry, shameless self promotion….  Each poet will have the opportunity to read their work on stage, sell their work to those who would like to buy, and mingle with the best poets of our generation.

It will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 9 PM

And the owner of STUDIO PARK in Atlanta has been gracious enough to open his doors to us without charging us ANYTHING!!!

You seriously CAN’T miss this~you HAVE to be there!  It is the chance of the lifetime, and the bigger we make it, the more attention we poets will get.

Poetry is NOT dead~let’s show the world that it is living and breathing~

***BTW~we are looking for a talented DJ to spin between reads~so if you have what it takes or know someone who does, please email me.

****ALL are welcome!  Whether you are a poet, or love poetry, we hope you will all come, tell your friends about it, and your friends’ friends-blog it, bulletin it, email it, scream about it from the rooftops~Whatever it takes!!!
