The Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the Arts (C.O.T.A.) was held on Friday evening, September 5, through Sunday, September 7, 2008. This marks the 31st year for the jazz and arts festival help in the tiny town of Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania. One of the best-kept secrets on East Coast, this friendly, community festival features national and international jazz artists, along with local talent and emerging artists. Food vendors, craft artists, and a children’s area are on-site.

The festival begins on Friday evening with in-door music, dance and theater events at the Church of the Mountain in the Delaware Water Gap. On Saturday, and Sunday, September, the festival moves outdoors to the main stage, where jazz lovers will be able to enjoy two full days of music including an eclectic mix of Bebop, Swing, Blues, Jazz Fusion, Big Band Sounds, and Dixieland. Blankets and lawn-chairs are recommended.

The majority of world-class musicians who perform at the festival live in the Pocono region, as do the artists, artisans, and even the food vendors who participate.

Since 1978, COTA has grown into a major jazz and cultural event, and is now attended by nearly 4,000 fans annually. The festival was the brainstorm of three local residents, the legendary saxophonist, Phil Woods, Rick Chamberlain, who is the principal trombonist with the New York City Ballet, and the late Ed Joubert. A few hundred music lovers came the first year to hear such jazz notables as Phil Woods, the late Al Cohn, Bill Goodwin, and Steve Gilmore.

For further information regarding the festival, please call C.O.T.A. at (570) 424-2210, or visit our website at www.cotajazz.org.

The Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the Arts is presented in cooperation with the Borough of Delaware Water Gap, Castle Hill Development, Inc., the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, and the National Park Service.
